For Writing Wednesday we’re revisiting a special edition version of a classic EDC pen: the Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Fisher Space Pen. The original Fisher Space Pen remains one of the most popular and highly recommended pocket pens to this day thanks to its compact size when closed, comfortable length when extended, durable metal construction, and write-anywhere (including in outer space) performance. This special edition pen features a two-tone brass and matte black finish, with special graphics on the barrel commemorating the recent 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. Functional brass accents like ridged grip portion and removable pocket clip make it an ideal way to both EDC a pen and remember one of mankind’s greatest achievements. Grab one for your EDC at the link below.

Picked up the Leatherman sheath with the intention of making it basically the only thing I carry and it fits what I need almost too perfectly. Still, the TPT is so small and light that I'm having a hard time leaving it behind so for now it stays in my coin pocket.

Still rolling with the Wally Micro wallet which is two or three years old at this point and just looking better by the day. Also got a new smartwatch mainly for GPS tracking while running, but discreet texting and playback controls while on the train is also nice.

Recently picked up the AirPods and Apple Watch Series 4 w/ cellular service. It's very liberating to be able to leave my phone behind. I've been making a conscious effort to spend less time on my phone, and it's definitely working. Apple Pay is popping up more and more, so it's nice to not even have to pull a card out of my wallet. As a mechanical watch fan, it's killing me inside just a little bit, but the convenience and utility of the Apple Watch are impressive.

This is the pouch I carry that makes it easy to swap between my sling and work backpack depending on my day. I get lazy to keep switching the same essentials back and forth (not to mention make it easy to forget to move something) so the pouch solves that problem.

Unmentioned/unseen:
Cologne vial
Paracetamol
Adhesive bandages
Extra CR123A battery + wand for S1
SanDisk Extreme 64GB USB 3.0 flash drive
Folding phone stand
Keychain

To celebrate my 3-year anniversary writing here at everydaycarry.com, I decided to purchase myself a new knife to commemorate the occasion. Pro tip: if you don't want to end up buying a Sebenza, don't ask your buddy to borrow one to check it out.

I've been carrying my phone sans-case, and it's nice to be able to feel the design that Apple intended when holding the phone. It's not buried within a case, making it heavier or clunky. It is quite slippery though, hence the small piece of gaffer's tape on the side.

The Sinn 856 is probably my ideal EDC watch – excellent design, 40mm case, great legibility, durable case, excellent water resistance, and the look totally changes depending on what strap you put it on.

The CRK Sebenza Insigno is super impressive. Every single bevel, the lockup, construction, fit and finish, sharpness, grind on the blade…everything…perfect. You've heard a ton about this knife, and it definitely lives up to the hype.

The Tactile Turn Slider is titanium coated with black DLC. It's a great little EDC pen with a fun mechanism.

Foursevens' Preon P1 is still my go-to light because of the size, nice pocket clip, tail click, and standard AAA battery.

As much as we appreciate a good EDC knife, it’s not always necessarily the best tool for the job. And depending on where you live or work, carrying a blade isn’t even an option at all. For those quick cutting tasks, a pair of scissors can get ’em done quickly, safely, and precisely. Even then, an EDC-friendly pair of scissors is surprisingly hard to come by: you’ve got trauma shears, ones built into bladed multi-tools, or dedicated scissors that can be dangerous to toss into a pocket or bag. With successful products like the Toolpen and Wrenchit under their belt, the innovative team at mininch are back to doing what they do best: re-designing essential tools in a pocket-friendly pen form factor. Their latest Xcissor Pen conceals a compact pair of scissors in a robust, machined stainless steel executive pen, making it an excellent office companion.

Where most pens in this class reserve the barrel of the pen for fancy deployment mechanisms or larger refills, the Xcissor opts for multi-functionality with its set of SUS420 stainless steel scissors. They’re squared away until you remove the barrel of the pen, disengage the safety lock, and extend the scissors forward. Fully ambidextrous and measuring in at about 1.5” of cutting length, the scissors give you plenty to work with for easy snipping. You can even choose between a nickel plated finish to withstand corrosion, or a blacked out teflon coating for its non-stick properties.

With the scissors hidden, the Xcissor Pen is still a solid EDC jotter in its own right. It features a robust machined stainless steel construction at a modest and balanced 5.5” overall length while weighing only 2.1 oz, scissors and all. Because of the built-in scissors, the pen lacks any click or bolt action deployment. Instead it features a classic screw off cap with an integrated pocket clip. Fortunately the cap actually posts onto the back of the pen when using it so you’re less likely to lose it (not to mention the better balance it provides). The pen comes with a Schmidt 635 Mini D1 ballpoint refill and accommodates similarly sized refills.

If you want a capable tool for the office but would rather not carry a knife, mininch’s latest creation is shaping up to be a strong option. It’s got a discreet and stylish design and two functional features that can benefit any EDC. Check it out and secure one for your EDC in your choice of silver or black color options at the Kickstarter link below.

Your EDC pen should be sturdy, ready to write at a moment’s notice, and of course, easy to carry. Machined pens made entirely out of metal have been popular for their heavy duty build quality, but they aren’t always the most pocket-friendly. That’s why Machine Era overhauled their original pen design with the release of the new bolt-action Field Pen. It features several improvements that make it both easier to carry and write with in a more compact body that’s still as sturdy as ever.

The Field Pen has some of the design cues from their original pen, but other than the machined grooves, it’s completely different. Instead of a screw off cap, the Field Pen has a custom-designed bolt mechanism. Machine Era ditched the dedicated bolt seen on most other designs. Instead, the pen’s aluminum clip pulls double duty as both the clip and the bolt. The bolt action means that there’s no cap to unscrew (and potentially lose) and keeps the overall length of the pen short.

At a conservative 3.9”, the Field Pen is small enough to disappear into a pocket, yet not so small that it sacrifices usability. Inside, you’ll find the Schmidt Megaline 4889 refill — the German refill brand’s write-anywhere refill. It’ll also take the popular Fisher Space Pen refill as well.

The Field Pen is available on Kickstarter (already well surpassing its goal) in either brass or stainless steel. They already hit their stretch goal, which unlocked a stealthy black DLC-coated option as well. Hit the link below to secure one of these EDCable pens for yourself!

Been trying out a bunch of different keychains and finally picked up this Outlier one after reading about it in our magnetic keychain guide and couldn't be happier. Super easy access to my keys and also pretty secure. Also got my first SAK a few months back (i know right) and have been really impressed so it's replaced my TPT for now.

Wally Micro is still doing it for me and I'm loving the way it looks as it ages. Great little slim thing. The S1 Baton is still my favorite light because of its size and sick build quality, and I swapped out my old Machine Era pen for this Tactile Turn because it has a sturdy pocket clip and I'm tired of losing things I paid money for.

Google Pixel because it's the best phone of the year (@ me bro) and the headphones because they're easy to carry and sound great. I don't smoke but a lighter comes in handy more often than you'd think.

New Additions include:

Sinn 856: picked this lightly used Sinn 856 up from a FS thread on a forum. The watch has so much technology packed into it. Tegimented stretch-resistant case, CuSO4 capsule to keep humidity out, 20bar water resistance, sapphire glass with AR coating, and a clean dial that's really legible. The watch is 40mm, and wears extremely comfortably on the wrist.

Hitch and Timber Pocket Runt: The Pocket Runt is a great way to carry a SAK or small slip joint knife. I've been using the clip on the Tactile Turn to keep the whole sleeve anchored to the pocket of my jeans, keeping everything from bouncing around in my pocket. It also makes it much easier to grab the knife or the pen the moment I need them.

Other than those new additions, everything else I've settled into using. I still love the Bellroy wallet. The Bottlehook is going strong after many years. The "life in the fast lane" keychain is painfully ironic. I found it in a thrift store back in highschool and have carried it since.

There are plenty of mechanical pens to choose from in the market, each with their own benefits. Premium materials, self-defense features, and a wide range of refill options all try to fit the needs of every EDCer. With the TPX22 (and its big brother, the TPX33), MecArmy get to the point and put together all the features EDCers look for and need in a tactical pen. It’s a sleek option for the discerning jotter that makes no compromises with its manufacturing and design.

The TPX22 measures 4.84” long machined from TC4 titanium, with a corrosion- and scratch-resistant finish befitting a tough EDC pen. The hardened shell, compact size, and pocket clip lend themselves well to a pen you can carry every day and everywhere. Fisher Space Pen compatibility gives EDCers a familiar refill, with an anti-roll shape that also provides a comfortable grip to help with long writing sessions. As you’d expect on a tactical pen, it boasts a tungsten tip for breaking glass in emergencies and a slot for a glowing tritium vial makes an unexpected (but welcome) addition.

MecArmy’s makes a strong foray into the field of tactical pens, with the TPX22 handily knocking off items from an EDCer’s wishlist of features. Add the TPX22 to your carry via the Amazon link below.

Testing out some new stuff from Cardamon and Steel and Flint. The Cardamon wallet is a great option for those who want to keep their carry slim without giving up a bill slot. It holds 8 cards too. The Steel and Flint pen is a great pocket pen, nicely sized, has a knurled grip, and the cap closing mechanism is fun to play with. The Foursevens and Spyderco are nothing new, but I depend on them both daily.

Trying to keep things slim in this warmer weather.

– Zebra Sharbo X LT3 – This multipen has two different color inks and a mechanical pencil packed inside a slim metal body.

– Titanium Pocket Tool (TPT) by BigiDesign – A great stand-in for a knife. It’s light, slim, takes a utility blade, and doubles as a wrench set / bit driver.

– 4Sevens Preon P1 – I absolutely love this light. It runs on a single AAA battery and has a bunch of different modes. The programmable interface is great for customizing to your needs. The tail clicky button to turn it on and off is my favorite part.

– Bellroy Card Sleeve – fits my needs for a wallet in a really small form factor. Leather is high quality and it sits nice and flat in my back pocket.

– Wedding Ring – just got married, this is still super weird to wear!

– iPhone 6s – I’m running the new iOS10 beta on here, it’s pretty cool.

– Bertucci A-3P Field Watch – This thing is super light and the NATO strap is really easy to change out, depending on what I want to wear that day. Love this watch more than I thought I was going to.

– Crown & Buckle Horween Chromexcel NATO – This strap is super soft, smells good, wears nicely, and I love the color.

I took the past few months and pretty much updated everything, the only item that hasn’t changed is my zippo. I do carry more than this on a daily basis, but the rest just gets cycled in and out of whatever backpack I’m using that day.

Not pictured here is my Kershaw Cryo II and Leatherman Wingman which I tend to leave at home because of NYC laws. The Wingman probably isn’t a big deal if I get stopped by police but I’d rather not risk it. I also backed the Titanium Pocket Tool on Kickstarter, so I’m expecting to add that to my carry within the next month.

Mechanical pencils are far better suited for EDC use than their wooden counterparts, but most are made of flimsy plastic. Modern Fuel has created their own take on the mechanical pencil, machining it out of solid metal. This precision-made pencil looks simple, but the attention to detail and substantial feel in hand set it apart from the rest. Each piece of the pencil seamlessly blends into each other, giving the illusion that it’s a single piece of metal. Included with the pencil is a pocket clip for easy transport and a unique cork case to keep it safe in your pocket. If you’ve been looking to ditch disposable plastic pencils for something more permanent, consider picking one up from our friends at Huckberry via the link below!
