Riding hot on the heels of its hugely successful Ridge Travel Collection, Ridge further expands its line of functional, durable, and stylish travel gear to offer even more options when planning your next trip. The new additions include the Ridge Check-In Luggage, Ridge Weekender Duffel, and, by popular demand, the Ridge Personalized Logo Plates. Let’s check each out to see how they fit into the collection.

Ridge Check-In Luggage: Designed for the Long Haul

Serving as the perfect companion to the previously released Ridge Carry-On, the Ridge Check-In offers the same impressive materials that make its little sibling a fan favorite. Its exterior shell, measuring 26.5″ x 18.5″ x 10.5”, is crafted from German Makrolon polycarbonate—a material that’s 30% thicker than standard plastic shells and is highly flexible. This makes it nearly impossible to break and able to absorb energy from impact while staying lightweight.

The corners are usually the parts of the luggage that sustain the most abuse during transit, so it’s great that black anodized aluminum corner protectors reinforce the corners of the Ridge Check-In Luggage. Compared to standard plastic corners, they do a much better job protecting your luggage from rough handling. We’re also glad to see YKK Racquet Coil zippers keeping the case together. Zippers are the primary failure point for any luggage, and Ridge went with the best in the business to ensure smooth and reliable performance. Oversized 360° spinner wheels keep things moving smoothly even over rougher terrain, while two handles keep options open for vertical or horizontal carry.

Open it up, and you’ll be greeted by a 70-liter compartment lined with 200D nylon fabric. 200D nylon is often found in tactical vests because of its high tear strength, so you can expect the Ridge Check-In’s interior to serve you well for years. You’ll also find a removable compression panel with its own zipped pocket to efficiently use any available space and a zipped panel on the left side to make separating items more manageable and organized. And just like the Ridge Carry-On, the Ridge Check-In has a pocket for AirTags or any GPS tracker, so you’ll always know where your luggage is at any given time.

The Ridge Check-In Luggage is available for $445 USD in Matte Olive, Basecamp Orange, Alpine Navy, Royal Black, or Gunmetal.

Ridge Weekender Duffel Bag: Works Hard, Plays hard

If you’ve got several short trips planned after you reach your destination, it wouldn’t be practical to roll your belongings around with you, especially if you’re going camping or attending a sporting event. That’s where a duffel bag comes in. Lightweight and compact, duffel bags are still spacious enough for all your essentials for the weekend while allowing enough versatility for whatever comes your way.

The Ridge Weekender Duffel Bag answers these needs and offers several convenient features for good measure. The exterior is made from a weatherproof 900D ballistic nylon shell held together by YKK AquaGuard zippers, providing excellent protection against the elements. It measures a compact 19″ x 19″ x 12″, so you can use it as a carry-on, while a removable shoulder strap offers customizable carry options.

You’ve got 32L of space inside, with the 210D antimicrobial nylon lining ensuring longevity and helping resist bacteria and mold, making it ideal for holding clothes that may get wet. Two mesh organization pockets keep essentials organized, and a dedicated pocket for AirTags or any small GPS tracker ensures you’ll always know where your luggage is. The Ridge Weekender Duffel Bag is available now for $195 USD.

Personalized Logo Pates: Make It Personal

One of the more frustrating things that could happen on your trip is realizing that several bags look just like yours, and you’re left second-guessing which bag to grab from the baggage carousel. With Ridge’s Personalized Logo Plates, you’ll never have to worry about that again. Available in Royal Black, Hyper Lime, and High Dive Blue (made from 6061-T6 aerospace-grade anodized aluminum), Stonewashed Grade 2 Titanium, and Carbon Fiber 3k, the Personalized Logo Plates allow you to customize your Ridge gear with three characters, making it uniquely yours.

Each Personalized Logo Plate is compatible with any of Ridge’s travel bags, including the Carry-On, Check-In, Weekender Duffel Bag, Commuter Backpack 20L, and Travel Kit. They’re also scratch-resistant, so you don’t have to worry about them getting scuffed in transit. As a bonus, Ridge’s website even allows you to see what your custom text will look like before you purchase. The aluminum plates are priced at $25 USD, while the titanium and carbon fiber plates are priced at $30 USD and $35 USD, respectively.

Ridge Frequent Flyer Kit: An All-in-One Travel Solution

If you’re new to the Ridge Travel Collection family, Ridge offers you a chance to purchase a complete travel system at a hugely discounted price with the Ridge Frequent Flyer Kit. It includes the Ridge Carry-On and Ridge Check-In bundled together for $550 USD, giving you a massive savings of $240 USD. You also get to add the Ridge Commuter Backpack for another 15% off, plus additional discounts on essential add-ons: the Ridge Packing Cubes, Hanging Airtag Holder, the Packable Backpack, and the Basecamp Orange Toiletry Bag.

In this roundup, we highlight elevated essentials, exceptional travel gear, and excellent eighth-anniversary flashlight deals.

The Brown Buffalo X Huckberry Collab to Release a Stealthy Style Trio

In their first collaboration in 2022, Huckberry and The Brown Buffalo teamed up to produce a limited Huckberry edition of The Brown Buffalo’s flagship backpack, the iconic Concealpack (a favorite of ours), that sold out in hours. Now, they’re back with a trio of exclusive limited-edition releases: an upgraded Concealpack, a Porterpen Case, and a Dopp Kit, all in an exclusive MultiCam Black colorway, making a uniquely styled, well-rounded collection of highly functional and durable organizational solutions for the everyday carry enthusiast.

Leading the pack, the upgraded Concealpack Everyday Backpack 21L is meticulously crafted from high-performing DWR-coated X50 X-Pac with a 500D CORDURA face fabric. Its lining is DWR-coated VX21 X-Pac, and boasts reinforced critical points featuring Berry-compliant bar tacks to better safeguard your essentials during transit and in cases of drops. It maintains an ample 21L storage compartment, a secure, padded laptop compartment, and plenty of pockets for organization, easily accessible through the full clamshell opening design. The Porterpen Case and the Dopp Kit are also crafted from the same material as the Concealpack. The Porterpen Case boasts a 1L capacity, offering a compact yet robust solution for safeguarding writing materials and other small essentials, and the Dopp Kit comes with a 3L capacity, perfect for keeping your toiletries and other related materials protected and organized, perfectly rounding out the collection.

Each of these pieces represents the uncompromising quality and thoughtful design of these brands, offering functionality and durability without compromising on style, and when used together, they make a cohesive ensemble that ensures efficient organization.

The post The 17 Best Travel Sling Bags for Your Next Adventure – Ranked! appeared first on Everyday Carry.

]]>
Sling bags are one of the most convenient ways to carry travel gear away from home. The sling design makes taking the bag on and off easier, especially compared to a traditional backpack. The single strap over the shoulder lets you carry a bag on either side of your body, and reducing the number of straps required to carry the same amount of gear tends to make things more lightweight.

With a travel sling bag, you can carry a bag at your front or back, depending on the situation. Back carry adds excellent stability, while carrying at the front lets you access your gear quickly, which is great if you carry a camera or other essential gear daily. While you can carry a backpack like a sling by only shouldering one of the straps, you’ll quickly find that to be highly uncomfortable and unbalanced compared to a sling. Some sling bags have even better padding than a traditional backpack, so they can be loaded to your heart’s content with no problem. And unlike a briefcase or duffel bag, the longer strap is more comfortable for longer trips.

Like other everyday carry travel bags, there’s a wide variety of sling bag designs. They span the entire range from small personal bags that augment your other travel bags of choice to large and thoughtfully designed sling bags that can be your one-bag solution when you’re headed out the door.

The Rummy features Mission Workshop’s patented Arkiv closure system, which uses a unique slotted pairing of metal hardware and cloth to ensure the bag doesn’t open in the wind and rain while remaining easy to open and close when needed. The material design gives you the confidence to load the Rummy with your tech and travel essentials on your back wherever you go.

The Best Budget Travel Sling: tomtoc Navigator-T24

Its 7L capacity gives a lot of internal organization space to help keep small daily essentials like pens and pencils from tumbling around in your closed pack as you go about your day. And the premium YKK zippers and Duraflex buckles used also provide a long-lasting usage lifespan. The Best Water-Repellant Travel Sling: 1733 VX21 Side Pack

Regarding water repellency, few things beat sailcloth, and the 1733 VX21 Side Pack sling features this in spades. VX21 X-Pac is an American-made laminated synthetic fabric with a diamond ripstop layer and integrated waterproofing that makes bags featuring this material shed rain. The material is also immensely lightweight, especially compared to higher denier fabrics that still require a DWR layer on top of it to get close to the same amount of weatherproof performance. As for the design of the Side Pack, 1733 has reimagined the fanny pack with a cross-shoulder design that’s also highly modular. The best part is that shops with extensive experience and attention to detail stitch each bag in the United States. The Side Pack features MOLLE/PALS compatible webbing and an elastic rope lid to augment the pack. There’s enough room inside to fit a mirrorless camera and other small essentials, all secured with rugged YKK Aquaguard zippers.

The Best Large Travel Sling: GREENROOM136 JunkMonkey

The JunkMonkey is a Malaysian design from GREENROOM136, and it features a bombproof 1000D CORDURA nylon fabric for the bag’s exterior and 420D polyurethane-coated ripstop nylon fabric for the interior. These protect 19L of space inside for your tech, travel, and everyday essential needs. One of the most unique things about this bag is the internal ripstop lining that increases its weather resistance and allows you to slightly overpack the bag while keeping it close to your back. That ripstop lining is high-visibility yellow, making it easier to identify the gear you need inside the bag, which can support up to a 15” Apple MacBook Pro or similar laptop. Because you can pack this bag full to the brim and do it comfortably with its winged back harness and stabilizer strap, the GREENROOM136 JunkMonkey is my pick for the best large travel sling.

The Best Lightweight Travel Sling: Alpaka Flight Sling

The Alpaka Flight Sling is a slim travel bag that’s useful for carrying your passport, boarding pass, and other small travel essentials close to your person at all times. You can use it to augment your travel space on a plane that limits the number of bags you can have in the cabin since you can tuck it under clothing once you clear security. The 210/200D ripstop construction of the bag, combined with the YKK Aquaguard zippers, helps it keep the elements out when worn externally when you’re out and about at your final destination. The bag’s immense practicality and traveling versatility make it my pick for the best lightweight travel sling.

Our other recommendations

Manhattan Portage Atlas Sling Pro: Our co-founder Bernard spent over a year designing this sling with Manhattan Portage. The bullet profile fits up to an 11″ tablet (one of the few slings able to accommodate the size) and all your gear while remaining narrow and nimble while commuting through crowds. It sits centered on the back and has fantastic modularity and organizational space.

Aer Day Sling 3 Max X-Pac: Using X-Pac fabric allows Aer to provide substantial padding and protection for tablets up to 11” without bringing the weight of the overall bag up too much. The high-visibility interior also makes it easy to rapidly access your notes and other small gear essentials at the office or on the go.

Bellroy Venture Sling Camera Edition: This bag is suitable for short photo trips with room for a small mirrorless or compact camera and lots of tech organizer space. It can also be used as a travel bag, with all your camera gear ready to go once you’re where you need to be.

Peak Design Everyday Sling 10L: The seatbelt fabric design of the strap, quick adjustability, and hinged attachment make this one of the most comfortable slings you can carry, even if you don’t tote around cameras regularly. Peak Design’s lifetime warranty is also hard to beat, making this bag a buy-it-for-life deal you won’t regret.

Trakke Largo Sling: The Trakke Largo Sling takes quick access to the extreme, with two large zippered compartments and organizational space that make retrieving your everyday carry gear easy. The COBRA buckle strap is also quicker than a standard buckle, and its reversibility adds to the Trakke Largo’s ambidextrous appeal.

WNDRD Rogue 9L Sling: With its 1680D and 840D ballistic nylon with 5PM coating, the WNDRD Rogue 9L is one of the most heavy-duty and water-resistant sling bags you can carry. The internal dividers and tripod holder make the Rogue great for dedicated photography carry, but you’ll also appreciate the added padding if you carry tech essentials.

Mystery Ranch Hip Monkey Sling Bag: The Hip Monkey fits more of a traditional fanny pack style, but the wide strap makes it comfortable to wear as a sling. The bag fits a professional-sized mirrorless camera and lens with room to spare. If you find yourself in Japan, there’s an exclusive version of this pack using X-Pac fabric, and that is my current daily driver for 1.5-bag travel.

EVERGOODS Mountain Hip Pack: While the EVERGOODS Mountain Hip Pack is best carried ergonomically behind you at your lumbar region, the body-hugging design of the pack lets it work well slung over your shoulder, too. Its name denotes its intended use, and the breathable back panel on the Mountain Hip Pack deals with sweat and outdoor exertions better than standard spacer mesh on other bags.

North St. Bags Pioneer 12 Hip Pack: The Pioneer 12 is a versatile hip-pack sling that can also be used as a handlebar bag if you have a bicycle. It’s also made in the United States in Portland, Oregon, and North St. Bags guarantees it for life.

Wizard Works Hobgob Hip Pack: Wizard Works designed the Hobgob to minimize sharp edges and plastic hardware from rubbing against you while you wear it, making it comfortable for long-term use. Unlike many sling bags, you can add their Quick Draw Bottle Pocket to stay hydrated throughout the day.

DSPTCH Slingpack RND Dyneema: The technical construction of the DSPTCH Slingpack RND Dyneema makes it lightweight for its 15L capacity at 1lb 14oz. A hidden security pocket also serves as an excellent place to carry items you cannot lose, like your passport, when you’re out of the country.

Osprey Metron: The Osprey Metron was designed as a bike messenger sling bag, and it has lots of storage for laptops, tablets, parcels, and essential documents. The flap cover is also secured with buckles and hook and loop, making it highly unlikely that anything flies out of your sling when you’re screaming down a hill on a bike.

Features to Keep in Mind When Shopping for Travel Sling Bags

The plethora of choices for travel sling bags can make it intimidating if you’re looking for your first bag, but a few considerations should always come into mind when making your choice. These boil down to a few things: the material your bag is made of, the size and capacity of the bag itself, how comfortable it is to carry daily, and any special features any particular design might have compared to the rest.

Material

The material in your travel sling bag is essential because it impacts the durability of your bag and more. Picking a sling bag made out of flimsy material means it will break easily. If weight is an issue, you can choose a bag made out of ripstop nylon, sailcloth, or Dyneema Composite Fabric to maintain a good level of durability while being less hefty than traditional materials like waxed canvas or leather. If you’re looking for absolute bombproof construction, high-denier ballistic nylon is your best choice.

Size

The size of your travel sling bag is essential because it marks the limit of the gear you can pack. However, travel limitations also dictate the size of the bag you pick. Depending on the airline or railroad restrictions of your choice, you may have to limit based on a personal bag or carry-on size compatibility.

Comfort

Comfort is sometimes underrated when picking a travel sling bag, but it’s critical because a poorly designed sling bag will be more uncomfortable to carry compared to a backpack that might be designed sub-optimally. The single strap design can bite into your neck or shoulder if it’s not done well, and that’s why picking a bag with a good strap and enough padding to make it comfortable is essential. Some sling bags further augment the equation by adding stabilizer straps and ambidextrous options that make switching between left-handed and right-handed carry easy based on the load and travel.

Features

The features emphasized in each travel sling bag should correspond to your travel needs. You may value padded dividers and laptop sleeves if you carry a laptop, tablet, or expensive camera gear. People with lots of stationery in their everyday carry will value dedicated organizational space. If you live or travel to places that rain or snow a lot, waterproof materials and quality zippers like those from YKK come into play. You choose the most important features to you, and sometimes that may mean picking more than one travel sling bag for different situations at different times.

Best Travel Sling Bag FAQs

Are sling bags good for travel?

Sling bags are great for travel because they are easier to carry than a backpack or tote bag. Sloping a bag across your shoulder on either side makes it easy to get through crowded bus terminals and get to where you need to go without hassle.

Is a sling bag considered a carry-on?

A sling bag can be considered a carry-on bag if it meets your airline’s size requirements. However, most sling bags on the market are substantially smaller than the carry-on size limit because sling bags that are too big can become very uncomfortable to carry long term.

What is the difference between a sling bag and a crossbody bag?

There is a bit of interchangeability between a sling bag and a crossbody bag. However, some are dedicated crossbody bags that only make sense to carry across your body. A sling bag is versatile enough to be carried in several ways that are not just across your body.

Is a sling bag the same as a fanny pack?

Some sling bags can be used as a fanny pack. Some fanny packs can be deliberately carried as a sling bag through modification or sheer determination. It depends on the bag and the user whether a fanny pack can make for a good sling bag.

Anyone who’s done their fair share of traveling can attest to the fact that traveling gear tends to take a ton of abuse. We’ve all been there – pulling on the zipper with everything you’ve got to force close a suitcase, seeing luggage being tossed around by airport staff when they load them onto a plane, experiencing nasty spills from hastily closed shampoo bottles, or having to walk through rain or snow on that last mile to our destination. So it goes without saying that traveling with the right gear can make the difference between a fun and memorable trip or wishing you were back home on the couch.

That’s why Ridge, a company known for their range of durable, reliable, and stylish EDC gear, developed a comprehensive travel collection to make traveling a rewarding experience. The Ridge Travel Collection consists of four products: the Ridge Carry-On, Ridge Commuter Backpack, Ridge Toiletry Bag, and the Ridge Packing Cubes. These products are designed to work together as a cohesive system that will make traveling easier, more organized, and more enjoyable.

Ridge Carry-On: A Durable and Stylish Spinner

Your carry-on is where you’ll place some of your most vital items, so it’s no surprise that the Ridge Carry-On features impressive specifications, putting it on par with high-end suitcases. Its shell is made from waterproof German Makrolone polycarbonate—30% thicker than the plastic shells from standard carry-ons while remaining extremely lightweight. It’s nearly impossible to break, and since it’s highly flexible, it can absorb energy from impacts and spring back into shape – making it an extraordinarily resilient material. Anodized aluminum corner protectors add an extra layer of defense against bumps and falls.

The rest of what you’ll find on the Ridge Carry-On is equally noteworthy. Keeping the case together are YKK RC (Racquet Coil) zippers that are precision-engineered to meet the most demanding performance requirements. They’re also treated to be water-resistant, and combined with the reinforced shell and exterior mounted trolley, give the Ridge Carry-On an IPX3 waterproof rating. This means that even if you find yourself caught in a slight downpour while waiting for a cab, you can rest assured that your items will stay dry. Durable dual spinner wheels provide smooth, effortless movement in any direction, making tight turns and maneuvering through crowded spaces easy. These 50mm wheels are wider than those found on standard carry-ons, giving them more surface contact with the ground. This makes them quieter and much easier to roll on slightly rougher terrain.

It features a TSA-approved combination lock, a telescopic handle, and a spacious interior lined with durable 200D nylon. The interior features a removable compression panel, zippered pockets, and even a pocket for an AirTag or GPS tracker, which makes losing your luggage a nightmare you’ll never have to worry about again.

The Carry-On comes with a minimalist yet masculine-slanting design that reflects the Ridge design philosophy and nicely complements the rest of its gear. It’s available in colors familiar to those who know the brand: Royal Black, Basecamp Orange, Alpine Navy, and Matte Olive. The black accents on the handles, zippers, wheels, corner protectors, and front slide rails add a nice contrasting touch. The distinctive carbon fiber logo plate is screwed onto the front of the luggage using the same screws found in the Ridge Wallets and other Ridge products.

The Ridge Carry-On meets the airline requirements for most major airlines as carry-on luggage and will fit in all overhead bins and is priced at $295 USD.

Ridge Commuter: A Rugged and Functional Backpack

The Ridge Commuter backpack complements the carry-on perfectly, not just because they share certain design elements, such as the carbon fiber logo plate and the black vertical Hypalon strips that match the carry-on slide rails, but because they both share matching colors.

It’s a versatile 20L backpack that can handle travel and everyday carry duty equally well. It can accommodate a 16” laptop in its shock-absorbing microfiber suede laptop compartment. It also features water-resistant materials such as 900D ballistic nylon and YKK AquaGuard zippers that protect your prized possessions from the elements.

Its main compartment fully unzips, so you can pack it flat like a suitcase. A modular hook-and-loop divider insert adds structure and organization to the bag, allowing you to customize the size of the main compartment to your liking. Multiple pockets keep your essentials secure, such as a hidden RFID-blocking pocket for your credit cards, an expandable side pocket for water bottles, two mesh front panel pockets, and a pocket for AirTags or any GPS tracker.

Travel-friendly features include a luggage pass-through that allows you to mount it on the carry-on trolley for easy transport and a FIDLOCK magnetic sternum strap for added stability and comfort. The Ridge Commuter is available now for $185 USD in four colors to match the rest of the collection.

Ridge Toiletry Bag: A Convenient and Hygienic Bag

The toiletry bag is where you’ll store your bathroom essentials, making it a necessary accompaniment to your travels. The Ridge Toiletry Bag was designed from the ground up with this in mind, featuring thoughtfully sized compartments that maximize storage without adding bulk.

The Ridge Toiletry bag is made from durable 900D ballistic nylon with YKK AquaGuard zippers (just like the Ridge Commuter), which make the Ridge Toiletry Bag weatherproof and ready to endure years of use. It features a zipper pocket on the back for quick access to items and a top pull handle that makes it easy to transport from luggage to the sink counter, where it stands upright for countertop convenience.

But what stands out is its interior. Ridge uses anti-microbial 210D nylon lining, protecting against bacteria, mold, mildew, and other hazardous microbes. This material prevents mold growth if liquids leak or spill inside the bag and is easy to clean.

Like the rest of the collection, The Ridge Toiletry Bag comes in matching colors and features shared design elements, such as the carbon fiber logo plate and the black vertical Hypalon strips, priced at $55 USD.

Ridge Packing Cubes: A Smart Way to Pack Your Clothes

The Ridge Packing Cubes are a great way to ensure you’re making the best use of your available space, with compressed compartments made from 420D ripstop nylon with a breathable mesh. They come in a set of four: three medium-sized cubes (9.5″ H x 6″ W x 3″ D) and one large cube (14″ H x 9.5″ W x 3″ D).

The Ridge Packing Cubes don’t just help with organization, but they also help you save space by compressing your clothes while reducing wrinkles. The cubes hold their shape when fully packed, so you always get the best compression for maximizing your space. The packing cubes can be stored flat when not in use and can be nested into the largest cube for compact storage. The set of four packing cubes is priced at $65 USD.

Durable, functional, stylish, and specifically designed to reflect the Ridge philosophy, the Ridge Travel Collection’s high-quality materials and high-end features make it a comprehensive and complete travel solution. Click the link below to browse the entire collection and special bundle pricing.

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

With its ergonomic design and clever organization features, the best-selling Cotopaxi Allpa Travel Pack has been a popular choice for quick, rugged excursions. For long-distance travel, however, you’d want to put your items in a travel roller to avoid carrying all that weight on your back and shoulders.

The Cotopaxi Allpa Roller Bag takes everything great about the Allpa pack to the next level by making it a full-fledged roller. It hasn’t forgotten its rugged pedigree, either. Large, sturdy wheels and an extendable handle make it easy to roll over cobbled streets, dirt roads, and stairs. And if you need to, you can also carry it as a backpack, thanks to the molded EVA back panel and padded shoulder straps that tuck away when not in use, making it a best-of-both-worlds travel solution.

The Allpa is made from high-quality materials that are both eco-friendly and resilient. The main body uses 100% recycled 840D nylon with a water-resistant TPU coating, while the secondary body uses 100% recycled 840D ballistic nylon with a ripstop weave. The lining is also 100% recycled ripstop polyester. These fabrics are sourced from pre-consumer waste, meaning they’re leftovers from other production processes that would otherwise end up in landfills.

The Allpa Roller Bag has a split case design that allows you to organize your belongings in two separate compartments, separated by mesh dividers. A top accessory pocket gives you quick access to your essentials, such as your passport, wallet, phone, and keys. It has 38L of available space, which I find is perfect for a 3-day getaway.

Multiple grab handles make it easy to lift it in and out of overhead bins or car trunks. It’s also carry-on compatible, so you can avoid the hassle of checking in your luggage. For longer trips or more packing space, a larger 65L size is available, too.

What we like: It combines many things we want to see in our gear: 100% recycled materials, rugged durability, and thoughtful organization features.

What to watch out for: It has no laptop compartment, so be prepared to leave your work behind. And while you can use it as a backpack, it won’t be a very comfortable carry.

Final verdict: The Cotopaxi Allpa Roller Bag combines the features of a backpack and a suitcase, making it a great all-in-one solution for your next adventure.

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

A carry-on bag can sometimes be overkill when traveling fast and light on a plane. Often, you don’t need to pack a carry-on roller or backpack to the brim, and once you’re at your destination, even a TSA-compliant bag might be too bulky for your needs. Another downside of a carry-on-sized bag is that if you run out of overhead space, the airline will force you to gate-check your essentials, which can get lost or broken in the cargo compartment and baggage handling system. To deal with this problem, WaterField Designs out of San Francisco has designed a new travel bag called the Air Porter. It’s a 22L backpack that precisely fits the under-seat storage for most major American airlines, and it ensures you’ll always have what you need when you need it when a regular carry-on doesn’t work for you.

The key feature that sets the Air Porter apart from other options is the structural plastic and triple-layered foam padding built into its design. That makes it comfortable to wear on your back. It also provides a lot of rigidity and protection for the crucial valuables you choose to pack inside. With that padding, you can feel comfortable using the built-in 15″ laptop and 13″ tablet pocket. Covering that padding is exceptionally durable and abrasion-resistant 1680D ballistic nylon, with full-grain leather accents for a touch of class. 1680D ballistic nylon will help keep out the rain, and the waterproof YKK zippers also help.

The top external pockets keep active noise-canceling headphones and other small essentials at easy reach when on board. The backpack straps tuck into a fold of the bag to avoid getting tangled up in small storage spaces. A luggage passthrough means the Air Porter integrates well with a rolling carry-on or checked bag when packed for a more extensive trip or vacation.

Because the WaterField Air Porter is the precise size of the under-seat storage, you’re sacrificing leg space and the little comfort a coach seat provides you to store your travel and tech essentials. But when you find yourself flying a budget carrier that nickels and dimes you for every amenity, that tradeoff can become worth the trouble the more flights you take. And while plenty of small bags fit in that space, the Air Porter’s innovative design makes it uniquely suited for the job.

What we like: This is the first bag that meets most planes’ exact dimensions of in-flight under-seat storage spaces. Its unique and innovative design stands out from other bags. It fills a niche use case that some travel EDC enthusiasts have wanted for a long time.

What to watch out for: This bag’s immense practicality, combined with WaterField’s attention to detail and build quality, comes with a price. At over 400 dollars, the Air Porter may be out of range of many EDC budgets. But if you have the money to spend, this is the (literal) best-in-slot bag if you’re trying to maximize your airline EDC without bringing a large carry-on bag.

Final verdict: The WaterField Designs Air Porter backpack is hard to beat if you’re trying to maximize your travel storage. Whether using it alone or trying to get the most space when you move from place to place, look no further than the Air Porter to fill that need.

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

When you’re out on a trip, a good toiletry bag can be the difference between keeping your grooming essentials organized, accessible, and hygienic, or finding out your shampoo bottle emptied its contents all over your clothes. However, this Travel Toiletry Bag from WaterField Designs isn’t your ordinary Dopp kit. It’s got some clever features that are noteworthy enough to make it stand out from the crowd, handcrafted by WaterField’s expert team right in San Francisco.

Like any reliable bag you’d want to bring on your travels, the Travel Toiletry Bag is made of high-quality materials that can withstand the rigors of your trip. You can choose from durable, water-resistant waxed canvas or ballistic nylon, both with full-grain leather and premium hardware.

Its two external side slots can hold and separate a toothbrush and a razor when not in use. This means you don’t have to worry about them touching a dirty bathroom counter or getting lost in the main compartment. You can easily grab them when needed and put them back when you’re done.

A spacious main compartment opens wide and is accessible from either side via dual zipper pulls. You can fit all your large items, such as shampoo bottles, shaving cream, deodorant, or lotions here. The bag has four small interior pockets and a front zippered pocket that can organize and separate loose toiletries such as cotton swabs, floss, nail clippers, and other smaller items.

The Travel Toiletry Bag’s water-resistant and eye-catching gold lining wipes clean and brightens the interior, making it easy to find what you are looking for without digging through the bag. The bag also has a nylon side loop that can hang on a bathroom hook or act as a quick-grab handle.

What we like: Whether you choose the waxed canvas or ballistic nylon variant, the Travel Toiletry Bag is built to last in the USA.

What to watch out for: $99 is steep, but well worth considering, given the materials and handcrafted quality.

Final verdict: Whether you’re traveling for business, leisure, or adventure, you’ll find this toiletry bag to be a smart and stylish companion (and heirloom) for years to come.

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

If you’ve been following us for a while, you’d know how much we love X-Pac fabric on our bags. X-Pac is designed to perform in the most rigorous environments and is highly durable, 100% waterproof, and possesses an impressive strength-to-weight ratio. So imagine our delight when outdoor experts Huckberry and bag specialists Peak Design announced an exclusive collection of six travel bags, each made with laminated X-Pac in an exclusive Coyote colorway. There’s a lot ot take in with this collection, so let’s take a look.

The 30L Travel Backpack is the collection’s flagship, taking versatility and organization to the next level with its weatherproof X-Pac fabric construction and signature Peak Design organization. It has multiple pockets and compartments to keep your laptop, clothes, toiletries, and other items neatly arranged, and it can be carried as a backpack, a briefcase, or a shoulder bag.

If you need to pack even more gear for your next getaway, the Travel Duffel Bag has you covered with 65L of storage space. It has a spacious main compartment with internal dividers and pockets to keep your things organized and external pockets for quick access to your essentials. You can carry it by the handles, the shoulder strap, or the backpack straps, depending on your preference. It has a smaller 35L brother that’s ideal for weekend trips, trips to the gym, or as carry-on luggage. It has the same features as the larger duffel bag, such as the weatherproof X-Pac fabric, the internal and external pockets, and the multi-carry straps, just in a carry-on compliant size.

The Wash Pouch and Small Wash Pouch are the ideal toiletry bags for travelers who want to keep their hygiene products protected and accessible. X-Pac is easier to clean than most materials and can resist water and stains. These pouches have cleverly designed internal pockets that can hold everything from toothbrushes to razors and even small bottles.

Last but not least, Peak Design’s versatile Tech Pouch makes a comeback for tech-savvy travelers who want to protect and store their gadgets and cords. This pouch has an accordion opening and origami-style internal pockets that make it easy to access and organize your tech items, such as chargers, cables, headphones, power banks, and more. It also has a padded, weatherproof exterior that protects your devices from shocks and spills. It’s made from the same X-Pac material as the other products in the collection, ensuring durability and reliability in any weather condition.

What we like: Community-favorite X-Pac construction combined with Peak Design’s expertise in carry solutions and organization. What’s not to like?

What to watch out for: This is a limited edition collection, so grab yours now before they disappear. The collection is also exclusively in Coyote, so those interested in a more stealthy colorway may need to look elsewhere.

Final verdict: A good set of bags goes a long way to making your travel adventures safer, more comfortable, and more enjoyable, and the Huckberry x Peak Design X-Pac Travel Collection is as good as it gets.

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

Packable bags are some of my favorite things to bring when traveling around a new city or heading out on a day trip to the beach. They can be easily folded up and stored in your main bag without worrying about them taking up too much space. The main drawback to packable bags is that they tend to sacrifice some features to make them compact and portable, such as less padding, fewer compartments, and a weaker structure which gives them the tendency to sag.

That all changes with Matador’s ReFraction series of packable bags. Each of the three products in the collection–the  Packable Backpack, Duffle, and the Sling–are built with 100D recycled nylon with PU waterproofing that meets Bluesign criteria (one of the highest standards for textile production and sustainability), and all feature a PFC-free DWR coating. The durable materials used in the construction of the ReFraction series make them more structured and less saggy, and the availability of multiple pockets and stretchy compartments means you don’t have to sacrifice organizing options.

The ReFraction Packable Backpack features a 16-liter capacity and comes equipped with YKK water-resistant zippers, comfortable shoulder straps, a stretch front pocket, water bottle pockets on both sides, and even a pass-through for rolling luggage handles. The backpack straps feature lightweight padding and a hidden internal structure that prevents the shoulder straps from pinching inward or digging in.

For more storage, the ReFraction Packable Duffle’s 25-liter capacity should be enough for a day’s adventure. It also features water-resistant YKK zippers, zipper security loops for the main compartment, expandable pockets, rubberized high grip handles, and an expandable shoulder strap.

And for minimalist excursions, The ReFraction Packable Sling easily accommodates your essentials, like your phone, wallet, or keys, while keeping them safe from the elements with its YKK water-resistant zippers. Its adjustable strap and compression straps offer a customized fit, while the stretch front pocket makes it a versatile travel companion.

The best part is that all the bags pack into their own pockets, making them even more compact but versatile when you take them with you on your next trip.

What we like: Robust packable bags that aren’t the flimsy, floppy options you may have tried in the past. They even come in three colors to match your personal style. And if you missed out or didn’t prefer the recent EDX collaboration, these are a solid alternative.

What to watch out for: While the materials used in the ReFraction packable bags are durable, they’re also meant to be lightweight, making them more susceptible to damage than heavier bags.

Final verdict: The Matador ReFraction Series bags are balanced and versatile, with well-rounded features that take them up a notch higher than your typical packable bags.

The post The 15 Best Water Bottles in 2024 appeared first on Everyday Carry.

You might wonder if investing in a high-quality water bottle is worth it. After all, water already comes packaged, and you could find cheaper options if you want to fill your own bottle. However, that might not be a good trade. If you opt for a standard bottle, you’ll likely end up with a lukewarm beverage that might even come with unwanted tastes. It could also be clunky to handle and carry.

But most importantly, we all know where millions of plastic bottles end up: in the ocean. Even without other drawbacks, this alone should make everyone reconsider their choice.

Personally, investing in an insulated stainless steel water bottle has proven to be a game-changer. It serves as a reliable, reusable container for any occasion. Whether I want to carry hot coffee or ice-cold water, my stainless steel bottle ensures freshness, much like a thermos. The best part? I get to do my bit to preserve the environment. Here’s a rundown of some of the best water bottles I’ve come across.

This is possible due to the vacuum insulation that doesn’t allow any heat to break through. The bottle also includes a drinking straw mechanism that can be disassembled for easier cleaning. And if you take your drink on the go like I do, don’t worry about accidental spills. It has a safety lock to prevent liquid from escaping, making it ideal for bikes and hikes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which brand of water bottle is the best?

Zojirushi is my personal pick for the overall best water bottle brand, given that it features twice on this list. While other bottles may excel in specific areas, Zojirushi provides a comprehensive premium experience for me.

What is the healthiest water bottle to use?

When it comes to the healthiest water bottle, I’d have to select the Platypus DuoLock SoftBottle. Although it’s made of plastic, the material is entirely free from harmful substances, measuring up to the renowned Nalgene bottles.

Which water bottle keeps drinks cold the longest?

With its impressive 75-hour temperature retention, the Klean Kanteen TKWide takes the crown. This bottle ensures your drink stays chilled for days, which is a standout feature in my book.

What water bottles are better than YETI?

If I had to choose a brand that outdoes YETI, it would be LARQ’s remarkable UV Sanitizing Water Bottle. The self-cleaning feature is rarely seen in water bottles and deserves recognition for its innovative functionality.

What is the best water bottle for hiking?

The Platypus DuoLock SoftBottle, with its unusual design, might be the best option for hikers. The bottle is flexible and easily attached to a backpack, making it easy to carry on long hikes.

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

If you have yet to hear of Porter-Yoshida and Co., don’t worry. The Japanese company handmakes fashionable and practical everyday carry bags and packs, earning them a legendary status among bag enthusiasts. You usually have to pick one up on a trip to add one of their elite and elusive bags to your collection, until now. Huckberry has partnered with Porter-Yoshida to bring the wider EDC community their unique and stylish Tanker Day Backpack in navy, green, and black colorways.

The name and material used in constructing the Tanker take their design cues from the MA-1 flight jackets worn by American military personnel in Japan during the 1950s. The exterior shell of the pack features heavy-duty CORDURA nylon for water and abrasion resistance. The interior area of the bag features high-visibility quilted and padded cloth using traditional handcrafted three-stitch Japanese methods.

With 13 liters of capacity, this is a perfectly-sized day bag with a dedicated laptop or tablet holder that can accommodate up to a 13” device. And two interior slip pockets allow for stashing documents and small accessories without having them flop about in the bag’s main compartment. The padded back panel allows for comfortable long-term wear, and the high-quality YKK zipper hardware ensures the bag will stand the test of time and the rigors of daily use.

What we like: This is a stylish bag from a heritage EDC maker that’s hard to find outside Asia and Japan. The unique mix of high fashion with functional and durable EDC features makes it a compelling pick.

What to watch out for: This limited release has limited quantities and a high asking price, but it does save you a whole trip to Japan just to get them.

Final verdict: The Porter-Yoshida and Co. Tanker is a premium but practical choice if you’re looking for a high-quality, stylish daypack with a rich design pedigree that will suit you well in a professional or travel setting.

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

Having one bag that can do it all is the end goal for many people in the everyday carry community. Many designers try to meet that demand, but the perfect bag still eludes us. The downfall of most bags that try to meet the one-bag ideal is their design excels at some aspects of EDC but needs to work better in others. Whether due to size, weight, storage space, or any other factor, inflexible designs tend to fail the one-bag EDC test.

That’s where Blackmile comes in, with their up-and-coming innovative 45L travel bag that they call The Mile One, a premium American-made EDC bag that offers tons of space, extreme modularity, and lightweight materials. The Mile One is highly modular and can operate as a travel suitcase, gym duffel bag, and rolltop backpack.

To meet your mission, you can reconfigure the quick-change straps secured with a Petzel H-frame screw lock carabiner. In addition to its waterproofed zippers and rolltop opening, its main compartment also opens like a suitcase, allowing you to maximize what and how you pack. And because the bag features rugged and lightweight Dyneema technical fabric, you get a three times stronger shell than Kevlar without all the weight of traditional materials like ballistic nylon or waxed canvas. Last but not least are the external zip pockets for quick access to your essentials.

What we like: The modularity of this bag is truly innovative. By compressing the bag and swapping buckles and straps, you can change the entire nature of the pack from a storage bag and backpack to a travel duffle and more. And the Dyneema fabric construction means you can fit up to a 17″ laptop without too much-added bulk.

What to watch out for: Dyneema is an expensive material because of its ultra-lightweight properties, and that shows in the high asking price of The Mile One. This bag illustrates that you get what you pay for sometimes when it comes to everyday carry, and it’s a great choice if you can afford it.

Final verdict: While pricey, this Huckberry-exclusive design from Blackmile should be at the top of your list when shopping for a one-bag wonder for your future travels.

Those of you who habitually take your reusable cutlery around with you as you go about your day know that one of the biggest challenges you’ll face is how to clean them after each use. Are you supposed to wipe the grease down with some tissue paper like some uncivilized brute? Douse the utensils with hand sanitizer so your next meal tastes like alcohol? You need to level your portable cutlery game up and check out the Cliffset Starter Pack.

The Cliffset Starter Pack comes with a fork, knife, and spoon made of sturdy 18/8 stainless steel, a custom-contoured cleaning tool made of shatterproof Tritan, a refillable sprayer, and a vacuum molded carrying case lined with ripstop nylon and durable YKK zippers. Also included is a 1 oz. glass bottle of Anyware Cleaner, which contains 60% food-grade alcohol, water, and lemon oil.

Once you fill the sprayer with the Anyware Cleaner, you’ll have a convenient, rinse-free cleaning solution that you can simply spray on your used cutlery that does a great job of quickly lifting grease and zapping bacteria without the alcohol aftertaste. The cleaning tool’s three ridges guide your cleaning napkin perfectly between Cliffset’s fork prongs to reach every last bit, while the tip perfectly matches the flat knife blade and curved spoon bowl.

What we like: The Cliffset Starter Pack is portable enough to bring in your bag, pocket, glovebox, or anywhere you might be going for the day.

What to watch out for: The Cliffset is great for travel, but remember to leave the knife at home or put it in your checked bag before going through airport security. Chopsticks as a part of the set would also have been handy for Asian cuisines.

Final verdict: Having to clean dirty utensils is one of the reasons people just opt for wasteful, flimsy plastic utensils instead. The Cliffset Starter Pack makes cleaning simple, easy, and fun, encouraging everyone to avoid plastic.

The post Aer 2023 Pro Collection appeared first on Everyday Carry.

]]>
Over the years, Aer has become an easy recommendation to everyone looking to buy their first (and sometimes last) EDC bag. The combination of minimalist, urban styling, the wide variety of models to suit everyday needs, the accessible price points, and the general high quality of all their products have brought them success and cachet in the carry community.

The 2023 Pro Collection is a new line of bags designed to appeal to a wider audience of users while refining Aer’s design language they’ve cultivated over the past few years, all while making the whole enterprise of bags more sustainable. As a long-time Aer user myself, I see in the new designs a culmination of styles across their products, from the minimal front facing of the Work Collection to the open clamshell style and utility of the most recent City Pack Pro.

The collection comes with two sizes of the Pro Pack, 24L and 20L, which share many features between them. The Pro Pack Slim offers a much more compact 12.5L volume, and the Pro Sling is an all-new 4.5L sling design that rounds out the collection while pulling double duty as a robust organizer. Unifying the line is Aer’s first use of 840D CORDURA re/cor recycled nylon for the exterior, a bluesign-approved material that’s more sustainable and lighter than their usual 1680D bags.

Speaking to Aer founder and lead designer Allen Choi over e-mail about the new designs, he explained that the new collection allowed Aer to explore and experiment with new forms and details and work on some feedback regarding their core bags. They focused on the idea of refinement using lighter 840D, sleeker, tapering shapes, and even more thoughtful features. The new canvas also helps usher in a new branding direction (see the Aer wordmark top and center on each bag) for future releases, which may or may not include the luggage line they’ve teased on their socials.

The “more thoughtful features” bit is essential, as the Pro Packs seem to be vying for very valuable carry time against Aer’s other backpacks like the aforementioned City Pack Pro and core Day/Tech Packs. What distinguishes the new bags apart is the substantial sum of their parts.

In addition to the lighter exterior, both sizes of Pro Pack come with a new valet pocket that takes the spot of the usual quick access pocket at the top of the bag. Rather than just being a simple lined space, it’s an additional admin section that can fit smaller devices and gear and essentially doubles up on the front compartment, which loses the lower slash pocket found on the Travel Pack and City lines. The packs also come with dual water bottle pockets and handles on every side of the 24L, making that model extremely capable for travel as well. Another extremely welcome feature is the use of a YKK AquaGuard zipper only on the laptop compartment (which fits up to 16” machines), allowing the use of speedier and more comfortable reverse coil zippers on high-traffic compartments like the main clamshell.

The Pro Pack Slim forgoes the valet and discrete laptop pockets, full clamshell opening, and one of the water bottle pockets for a lighter grab-and-go style, as well as an option for those who prefer a much more compact carrying experience. It still shares the fit and finish of its bigger siblings, as well as key features like the luggage passthrough and a new adjustable sternum strap.

Last but not least, the Pro Sling is a minimal daily carrier suited for up to 8” tablets, featuring an organized main compartment of mesh and zippers similar to Aer’s other slings. A detachable, reversible harness is the key feature of the sling, letting you carry it on its own or act as an additional organizing pouch for your main bags.

Like all their releases, Aer’s 2023 Pro Collection is both a steady and thoughtful step forward for their bags and brings more options to the table for discerning bag users and collectors. It’s a solid first move for the year, and as always, we’re excited to see what the rest of it has in store for the brand. Check out the collection in black, navy, and olive at the link below.

It’s that time of the year, and Black Friday gives everyone a chance to step up their everyday carry at a steal. Fortunately, Prometheus Design Werx is a one-stop shop for high-quality gear for every aspect of your carry, from bags to cases, to camping and even to carry-on friendly containers. For Black Friday and Cyber Monday, PDW are offering a steep discount of 25% OFF a ton of their soft goods offerings, and we’ve picked out the best and listed the rest in our roundup below.

S.H.A.D.O. Pack 24L

With a name that stands for and delivers the driving principles of Suspension, Haul, Access, Durability, and Organized, it’s no doubt that the award-winning S.H.A.D.O. Pack is one of PDW’s best-in-class backpacks. Its 24L frame is packed with features from harness to bottom handle, including dual reinforced clamshell main compartments for your laptop/tablet and EDC, bolstered by a top accessory pocket and dual side stretch water bottle pockets.

The bag also zips open flat, giving its internal admin pockets easy access. A network of adjustable and modular straps, clips, hooks, and cords ensure that external additions suspend securely and the S.H.A.D.O. remains comfortable to its user, even with a full haul.

The bag’s Invista CORDURA 500D construction provides a soft but resilient base to stack all of the S.H.A.D.O.’s many features for customizing and accommodating any EDC loadout, including a removable hi-vis EDCO admin/organization panel, 3-stage modular ToF hip belt, and a removable Gear Trap panel on the front with a laser-cut MOLLE-compatible array for endless modular options.

Road Warrior 60L Duffel

If you need an ultra-rugged duffel with the storage to pack for even the longest adventure, PDW’s Road Warrior is a 60L weather-resistant beast. It’s got enough space for well over five days’ worth of gear, with a spacious main compartment with a zippered clamshell top lid to store all of it in. The Road Warrior’s outer skin is made from 1000D Phthalate-free PVC tarpaulin which gives it its resilience, and its mesh, edge binding, webbing, zipper pulls, and Velcro loop all come in nylon.

Two padded shoulder straps can easily be attached/detached to suit your load, allowing you to carry the duffel in a backpack style, bolstered by two grab handles on each end and carry straps on top. For additional modularity, two rows of daisy-chain loops line the Road Warrior’s sides, and the bag also comes with a separate quick cinch bag for footwear or for separating laundry.

CC12

The CC12 is uniquely designed to work with a standard 12-gallon tote/bin, the roomy kind of durable storage you may already have in your garage or truck for overlanding. It provides extra protection through a 1000D Phthalate-free PVC tarpaulin construction while offering handles and attachment points for easy transport and identification. Its zippered main opening makes it easy to access a nested bin, with mesh pockets on the lid and two removable EDCO admin/organization panels for further organization. A padded handle, carry straps, and grab handles on each end give you options to easily manipulate even heavy loads, giving you grab-and-go capability at a moment’s notice. Last but not least, like on the Road Warrior, rows of daisy chain loops allow you extra attachments or labels to help you organize the contents of your bins.

EDTC

The EDTC is armor for your everyday backup gear. It’s a thermo-molded, clamshell-opening travel case with two removable die-cut EVA foam bumpers and divider that can fit an extra watch, knife, light, pair of sunglasses, or more within its semi-rigid 600D nylon oxford shell. The EDTC comes in a discreet Universal Field Gray with a molded PDW logo, but its interior is lined in hi-vis Flame Orange for ease of content identification even opening it up inside a dark bag. It’s an excellent option for protecting your essentials when packing and traveling for that extra peace of mind.

R.A.P.

For those smaller odds and ends that need extra protection or organization, a 3-pack of PDW’s R.A.P. (R.andom A.ccessory P.od) is a solid silicone bet. From charging cables, extra batteries that shouldn’t be rolling around loose, extra meds and other first aid gear, a secret stash of cash, ear protection–the sky is the limit. A simple squeeze front opening makes it easy to store, retrieve, and protect anything that will fit within the food-grade, non-toxic 4.50″ x 1.125″ x 4.00″ silicone construction. You can drop them into your pockets, bags, glove box, or even attach them to MOLLE-compatible webbing through the slots on the back. Each set comes in Universal Field Gray, Glow in the Dark, and Flame Orange.

Versa Bear

Traveling with liquids can be a pain, but it doesn’t have to be with PDW’s Versa Bear, a friendly set of food-grade silicone squeeze bottles with secure flip-top caps. They’re TSA carry-on approved with a 2.7oz/80ml volume, and make for great containers for anything from condiments to dopp kit essentials like liquid soap, shampoo, and sunscreen. The Versa Bear is inspired by the classic Gummy Bear and Honey Bear bottle shapes, and their friendliness extends past their design: PDW donates a portion of Versa Bear sales to various wildlife conservancies to help preserve the Honey Bee, a crucial member of the natural ecosystem. Note–while they’re versatile enough to store most liquids, be sure to check out the list of non-recommended items on the product page that may not be compatible with the Versa Bear’s silicone construction.

If you’re reading this, you probably already have an EDC bag. You’ve spent a lot of time picking one with suitable space and convenience to get you through your day. But what happens when you need more space than originally planned when you left your house? For example, how do you deal with a spur-of-the-moment trip to the grocery store? What do you do when you need to bring back some souvenirs that can’t fit in your travel bag? Ultralightweight, packable bags come in handy in these cases. For example, there’s the new Peak Design Packable Tote, an unstructured yet durable bag constructed out of a single piece of fabric that packs into itself to form a bag within a bag that you can bring out whenever you need a bit more space.

The Peak Design Packable Tote weighs just 80 grams, thanks to its single-piece construction. It features a recycled 70D nylon ripstop fabric with a water-resistant coating, making it more durable and resistant to weather than a shopping bag or even a branded grocery tote that you might find at the checkout line. The unstructured nature of the bag allows it to pack down to a compact footprint in a larger pack or sling.

But when you need it, you get a full 12 liters of added capacity in a high-strength container that zips closed for added security when you’re on the move. And unlike the standard grocery bag or ad-hoc plastic bag container, the Peak Design Packable Tote comes with a lifetime warranty, making it a buy-it-for-life bag that will last you through the years.

With its minimalist and lightweight construction, durability, and lifetime warranty, the Peak Design Packable Tote is hard to beat when it comes to having an extra bag on hand to deal with your additional storage needs. The strength of the design makes it possible to use as your primary bag if you’re traveling light as well. Click the link below to learn more about the Peak Design Packable Tote and buy one today.

]]>
As handy as packable bags are when we need that extra bit of storage on the go, they haven’t always carried a great reputation. From flimsy fabrics to confusing designs, several compromises are often made to achieve the compact portability needed to make bringing a packable bag with you worthwhile.

That is until Aer and their Go Collection entered the scene. The Go Collection features a line of lightweight, packable travel bags that combine durable, premium materials, sleek designs, and functional practicality. Updating their award-winning travel bags for 2022, Aer has launched the all-new, second-generation 2022 Go Collection comprised of the Go Pack 2, the Go Tote 2, the Go Sling 2, and the Go Duffel 2.

Available in black, lunar gray, and olive colorways, this refreshed collection boasts sleek silhouettes and upgraded materials, making use of 201D CORDURA crinkle nylon, high-quality YKK zippers, Duraflex plastic hardware, easy-grip hypalon zipper pulls, and soft woven lining for a look and feel that punches above its price range. 210D CORDURA crinkle nylon fabric features exceptional lightweight characteristics while maintaining high durability and resistance against tears, abrasion, and scuffs. It’s also highly water-repellant, with bluesign certification ensuring that the fabric is made sustainably and responsibly, reducing its environmental impact with no compromises on performance.

Go Pack 2

You’ve probably found yourself in a situation where you wish you had an extra backpack to use as you explore a new city or location without having to remove the contents of the one you used on your trip. Lightweight and designed to pack flat inside luggage or carry-ons, the Go Pack 2 makes for a perfect secondary pack for city travel. It features exterior water bottle pockets, an easy-access front pocket with a magnetic fastener for power banks or travel documents, a quick-access top pocket for small items like your wallet or phone, a spacious 20-liter main compartment, and a suspended laptop pocket that fits up to 16” laptops. It also has a strap that keeps it secure on luggage handles.

Go Tote 2

If you find a tote bag’s easy accessibility and simplicity more to your liking, then the Go Tote 2 fits the bill perfectly. With a capacity of 17.5 liters, the Go Tote 2 makes a great travel companion when you need things organized and within quick reach. It features a pocket for a 16” laptop, a front pocket with a magnetic fastener, a back pocket for smaller items, water bottle pockets, and a luggage handle pass-through. The water resistance provided by the 201D CORDURA fabric means your things stay dry through unpredictable weather.

Go Sling 2

When it comes to bringing your everyday essentials, few bags can compete with the practicality and portability of a sling bag. The Go Sling 2 is a packable crossbody bag with an adjustable shoulder strap, a magnetic fastener, and intelligent storage options for your everyday carry, including your most essential items, such as your phone, wallet, or passport. Aer redesigned the Go Sling 2 from the ground up with everyday carry in mind, with compartments large enough to carry anything from a mirrorless camera to your wireless headphones. Its soft woven lining feels great to the touch, giving a more upscale feel than your standard sling.

Go Duffel 2

For bigger, bulkier items or overflow travel storage, the Go Duffel 2’s 35 liters of available space is more than up to the task. It also features pockets for water bottles or travel essentials, a quick-access back pocket for personal items, and a pass-through strap for luggage handles. Like the rest of the Aer Go 2022 Collection, Aer constructed the Go Duffel 2 with water-resistant 210D CORDURA nylon for added protection. And while the Go Duffel 2 is designed to carry extra storage on the go, it’s still capable of folding flat, making it easy to pack inside your luggage or backpack.

Whether you’re preparing for your next travel adventure or simply need a readily-available bag to bring for a surprise trip to the grocery store, the Aer Go Collection for 2022 is something you’ll want to check out. And you can do that at the link below.

Bellroy designed the new Venture Backpack as an evolution of their learnings from producing several previous heavy-hitters, like the Apex Backpack, Transit Workpack, and Chimera. That thoughtful design works for office commutes, traveling, and short outdoor hikes.

The 22L capacity is perfect for a day’s worth of gear. For easy loading and unloading, the front panel unzips to lie flat. The top flap makes accessing the inside of the bag quick and easy. The dedicated internal laptop sleeve can accommodate up to a 16″ device while keeping it protected with ample padding. The shoulder straps are also padded for comfort. Combined with adjustable sternum straps, the Venture Backpack hauling a full load manageable.

Venture Duffel

The spacious 40L Venture Duffel hauls everything you might need for travel and does it in style. It features a clean and minimalist look that stands out from most other bags at the luggage carousel. The ultrawide zip opening makes it easy to take full advantage of the bag’s size. The top handles and side grab loops help you get it through tight baggage compartments. And your back will appreciate the Venture duffles’ extra-padded detachable shoulder straps.

Venture Sling 10L – Camera Edition

If cameras and small electronics are part of your everyday carry, the Venture Sling Camera Edition is for you. It’s Bellroy’s first bag specifically designed for photographers. The Venture Sling has a padded 10L capacity and a quick access top zipper design. There’s enough room for a mirrorless or compact camera and the lenses you need to get through the day. The exterior tripod straps come in handy when needed. On lighter days, the self-compressing gussets keep the bag slim. The ambidextrous shoulder strap allows for front or rear carry, and you can remove it for storage too.

The buzz and excitement of travel is starting to crackle in the air, and more and more people are taking back to the skies as borders and countries start opening up shop for work and leisure. And inevitably a big part of the trip is deciding what—and how—to take things with you. In addition to robust multi-tools and accessories, Victorinox has been in the luggage game for a very long time, offering premium and stylish travel cases that are a cut above the rest. Their new Spectra 3.0 Collection is a high-performance new offering built from a new sturdy and sustainable material, and offers you all the space you need, no matter how much you need to pack.

Spectra 3.0 Frequent Flyer and  Frequent Flyer Plus Carry-On

Whenever you’re traveling by plane, your main luggage suitcase will handle the bulk of whatever you decide to bring with you. But, for extremely important items you don’t want to lose (or have the airport lose them for you), the carry-on is your best bet. Victorinox’s Frequent Flyer Carry-On was designed not only to maximize the amount of things you can carry with you, but also to keep them as neatly organized as possible inside a protective body made with durable materials.

Measuring in at 9.1“ x 13.8“ x 21.7“, this option by Victorinox gives you 37L of space. Inside its main compartment you’ll find a large zippered compartment for smaller items, elastic X-straps for flexible packing, as well as an internal removable divider. For further versatility, you have access to a lockable front compartment which comes with an organization panel. And if you need a little more space, the suitcase can actually be expanded with 20% more capacity. Its exterior is made out of SORPLAS, a high performance recycled polycarbonate, helping you keep your items safe while helping the planet with sustainability.

If you need an extra bit of space, you can opt for the Frequent Flyer Plus Carry-On instead, with a larger 45L capacity. This does increase the size and weight a small amount, but compared to how much more space you’re getting, the increase is definitely worth it.

Spectra 3.0 Expandable Medium and Large Luggage

For the happy medium of packing where you still want to travel as light as you can but still have enough room to spare for any additions on the way home, Victorinox designed the Expandable Medium Case. Measuring in at 11.8“ x 18.1” x 27.2“ and weighing in at 13.7 pounds, the Medium case manages to give you a whopping 81 L of capacity.

It features a similar design to the Frequent Flyer Carry-Ons: inside the main compartment, you get the same zippered section for smaller items, elastic X-straps, the removable divider, and the lockable front section with the organizational panel. The big difference is that the Medium Case manages to expand up to 40% more of its size, giving you the versatility to carry a little more without having to carry an entire full-sized suitcase.

When you need as much space as possible for a big trip (or packing for a family), you’re also covered with the Expandable Large Case. It has the largest capacity of the entire collection, weighing in at 15 pounds with a 12.6“ x 20.1“ x 29.5“ size to provide you with an amazing 103L of space. Like its siblings, it features a high performance, recycled SORPLAS polycarbonate construction, designed to withstand the rough and tumble of travel (including getting tossed around by handlers). And like the Medium expandable case, the Large Case can be expanded to 40% more of its capacity.

Spectra 3.0 Trunk Large Case

If you’re going to be packing a lot of things but need to be able to stay on the move, the Trunk Large Case might be the right fit. It switches its dimensions around to make it taller and a less wide, so compared to the Expandable Large Case’s 12.6“ x 20.1“ , the Trunk Large Case measures in at 14.2” x 16.5” instead. But this doesn’t mean that you’ll get significantly less space, as it still features 99L of capacity.

Unlike the other cases in the collection, the Trunk Large is not expandable in order to be more mobile. However, it comes with a unique feature: packing cubes. These compressible cubes are located below the X strap divider and help you further separate and categorize your luggage.

All of the suitcases in the collection feature an 8-wheel design along with an extendable handle for easy transportation. To help you maneuver more easily, they feature a side-handle as well. You can find any of these models in either black or in the iconic Victorinox red. You can pick any of them up at the link below.
