Vosteed, known for its high-quality knives featuring innovative designs, has recently launched its new Dachshund knife, named after the clever and lively dog breed. The Dachshund features a crossbar lock mechanism, an M390 stainless steel blade, and a titanium handle, making it a versatile and durable everyday carry companion.

The M390 stainless steel blade offers excellent edge retention and corrosion resistance, with a modified reverse tanto blade shape that is versatile enough to handle various cutting tasks. The blade’s thumb studs also allow for different opening options. The Dachund’s sleek and modern titanium handle is ergonomically contoured with an angled, geometric design, with a reversible pocket clip for tip-up carry. The crossbar lock system provides a strong, secure lockup and smooth and fast deployment. The lock can be easily operated with either hand, and it also adds to the fidget-friendly nature of the knife. Vosteed says the Dachshund is “not only fully ambidextrous and intuitive to use, but it also provides great fidgetablity and tons of fun.”

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

Vosteed are on a roll this year, considering they first popped up on our radar late last year with a flashlight, then fast became a favorite knifemaker (for me especially) with their fidget- and budget-friendly models like the Corgi and the Raccoon. Designer Yue Dong and his team aren’t showing any signs of showing down, and the return of a fan-favorite model has me pretty excited.

The Thunderbird was an earlier model in their catalog, with a sleek, tanto-styled blade in S35VN and a larger 3.48” profile with Gmascus (G-10 laminate with a topo pattern) handle scales that contained Vosteed’s patent-pending Trek button lock, which, while not truly ambidextrous, can still comfortably be operated by either hand and still does the job of keeping your fingers away when closing up the blade. Inherent fidget friendliness was also the Thunderbird’s claim to fame, with three ways to flick it open between front and rear jimping and a thumb hole punctuating the end of the blade’s fuller.

The knife returns in a slightly smaller but more premium iteration, now with a top-tier M390 steel making up a 3.25” blade. Gmascus handles make a return with shuffled colorways (three available right now, with the blue/black one coming on November 7th), but this is shaping up to be every bit the fun, fidgetable knife as its larger predecessor.

What we like: Premium steel, a new take on G-10, and three ways to play—what’s not to like?

What to watch out for: The four base models are already good, but I can’t help but get hyped for the titanium variants coming on the 7th as well, which come with ELMAX steel and a frag pattern on the black variant’s scales. Watch this space for a hands-on when we’re able to grab one.

Final verdict: Time to get my flick on.

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

When it comes to EDC tactical auto knives, Microtech is at the top of most EDC enthusiasts’ lists because of their decades of experience. Their LUDT (Large-Water Demolition Team) automatic knife is a reissue of designer Anthony Marfione’s best and most enduring knife designs (the UDT) from 1995, and the upgrades they have made since then still make it a strong choice today. Microtech upgraded the partially-serrated drop-point blade with Böhler M390 steel, which features better edge retention than the steels available decades ago. The blade design is also improved, with a notched thumb ramp and a smooth crowned spine for better control.

The Tri-Angle button lock offers more security than the original, but the speedy spring-loaded automatic folder opening embedded into the tapered 6061-T6 aluminum handle remains. For everyday carry convenience, there’s a lanyard hole at the back of the aluminum handle, and the pocket clip supports tip-up right-handed storage. And while it’s not a strictly modern deep carry pocket clip, the LUDT of today conceals better than the original, which required a dedicated belt holster despite being a folding knife and not a fixed blade.

What we like: The throwback design of the latest LUDT brings a revered classic tactical knife into the modern day with improved blade steel and ergonomics that make it a solid choice if you’re looking to EDC a folding automatic knife today.

What to watch out for: Like with all automatic knives, do your research and check your local laws and rules to ensure you’re allowed to add one to your EDC.

Final verdict: Whether upgrading from your trusty original Microtech knife or adding this sleek new updated tactical auto folder to the mix, the new Microtech LUDT is worth looking at and purchasing today.

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

We’ve covered a number of Vosteed’s offerings in the past and have always been impressed by the value and unique designs they’ve offered, certainly bucking the trend of what constitutes a “budget” knife. But once in a while, every company takes the chance to demonstrate what they’re truly capable of, and thanks to a collaboration with Rob Saniscalchi of R.S. Knifeworks, Vosteed did just that with their most premium knife yet.

Originally dubbed the “Mayhem,” the RSKAOS is a knife taken to 11 in every possible way. It’s based on a custom framelock from R.S. Knifeworks but tweaked to be even more unique in this production version from tip to clip. Top-tier M390 steel known for its toughness and corrosion resistance, titanium handles, and an all-new top liner lock (think button and Compression) are the key features, with two blade shapes (3.46” wharncliffe and 3.3” sheepsfoot) and two colorways to give you four times the fun.

It’s a big departure from what we’ve seen so far from Vosteed, and I think it’s extremely refreshing that they can flex their design and manufacturing chops with the RSKAOS. It reflected in the knife’s original drop, where all four designs sold out in 20 seconds. It does so many things differently but capably, from the two blade designs leaning more towards utility, to a more futuristic design with the machined grooves in both the blade spine and body.

They even included a few smart and stylish flairs, like a copper-colored aluminum pivot collar on the regular titanium version and gilded aluminum accents on the black PVD titanium one. A minimal-knurled rear flipper tab complements the elliptical thumb, which in turn complements the rear lanyard hole. It really does feel like every aspect of the RSKAOS has been thoughtfully considered, and it deserves all the praise it’s been getting.

What we like: The RSKAOS is a welcome surprise from a brand that’s made a name for itself on the more affordable end of the industry, and is an excellent demonstration of their capabilities as knifemakers and collaborators.

What to watch out for: Premium features come with a premium price tag, but I think it’s fair, given the total package. Vosteed is planning on more stocks, so keep an eye out if you haven’t been able to snag one yet. One thing to note as well–the RSKAOS, unfortunately, only comes in a right-handed orientation.

Final verdict: Yes, Vosteed did that. And we want all of it.

If you’ve never held or used a Bugout before, it comes with a fair share of features that have contributed to its success as one of the most popular EDC pocket knives. The 3.24“ blade with a 3” cutting edge and versatile drop point shape comes straight from the original 535’s design, as is its use of Benchmade’s iconic AXIS lock for ease of use, secure lockup, and ambidextrous operation. On the 535BK-4, this blade is executed in a DLC-coated, blacked-out M390 steel, one often found in the highest end of knives offering one of the best edge retentions in the business.

The blade comes with dual maroon thumb studs, offering a striking color hit against the 535BK-4’s monochrome palette. These thumb studs match the maroon barrel standoffs in the handles, departing from the backspacer design of the previous premium Bugout. 6061-T6 aluminum handles are the highlight of this model, offering full metal construction while still keeping the knife as light at possible at 2.5 ounces. They come in a starburst pattern, offering grip as well a sleek new style for the line. And of course, a reversible pocket clip covers the Bugout’s bases for EDC.

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

While our team is busy covering SHOT Show 2023, Benchmade decided to drop a caseful of new models for this year, with one shiny new slicer immediately grabbing our attention. The 748 Narrows is the brand’s first titanium knife in a good long while, with a heritage spanning legendary butterfly knives like the 42 and the recent 85/87, as well as the highly desirable 781 Anthem with its bold integral lock handle. The Narrows makes a big statement in the thinnest way possible.

How thin, you ask? Well 33% thinner than even their light-carrying Bugout, affording the Narrows a super light weight of only 2.41 ounces. Within the skinny milled titanium handles lies the iconic AXIS lock, which in turn manages the knife’s larger 3.44″ M390 blade, a premium stainless steel best known for its corrosion resistance and edge retention. Anodized blue hardware gives the Narrows some eye-catching accents, including dual titanium thumbstuds, the pivot, standoffs, and also the reversible clip, which also makes this a truly ambidextrous knife for us lefties to drool over.

While the knife is remarkable in a lot of ways, the elephant in the room is its price, as this is one of the more expensive models to come out of Oregon in recent releases. Be prepared to pay a premium for this one, though given how popular titanium Benchmade knives have gotten over time as collector’s items, the higher ask may be justified in the end.

What we like: A titanium Benchmade that’s premium all over, carries super light, and is a treat for lefties.

What to watch out for: There are some pretty big numbers after the dollar sign when looking up its price.

Final verdict: It’s a knife that ticks all the premium boxes, with the DNA of many of its highly popular brethren that came before it, and if you can swallow the cost, likely to be another collector’s item in the future.

It’s no secret that we love our knives here at Everyday Carry. But a compact knife that combines premium materials, incredible craftsmanship, and an addictive flip-opening with a Samurai blade-inspired design? Now you’re speaking our language.

BLANK FORCES delivers just that with their new Pocket Tanto–a compact, fun-to-use blade perfect for everyday tasks like opening packages/letters, scraping, or poking and prodding. The word tanto comes from the Japanese word for “short sword.” The Pocket Tanto’s design takes inspiration from these ancient Japanese blade shapes, which is apparent in the angles and faceted faces of the blade itself.

Crafted from highly durable and premium Böhler M390 hand-sharpened to a razor-sharp edge, the Pocket Tanto’s 1.5” blade stays sharp much longer than the average knife blade. It rides on a ceramic ball detent, making it ride smooth with every deployment through its thumb cutout or flipper tab. When you’re done, the blade tucks into a grade 5 titanium framelock handle in either textured titanium or woven carbon fiber. The result is in an ultra-compact package 2.6” long and 0.37” thick, with a weight of just 1.4 oz for the titanium version, and 1.2 oz for the carbon fiber variant.

These small dimensions make the Pocket Tanto easily slip into your pocket or bag. You can also attach it to your keychain with its integrated titanium loop. Its compact size makes it better suited to more precise cuts than a bulkier pocket knife and also friendlier for local knife laws.

The titanium version features a vertical line texture on the show side for added grip, while the carbon fiber option is lighter and features a stunning depth to its design, with a reflective effect against the light. We can’t decide which one we like more, so it’s probably a good idea to get both, especially with early backer pricing from BLANK FORCES’ already-funded Kickstarter campaign. When it comes to getting your hands on a custom made grail knife, you often only get one shot. But sometimes, your grail knife design gets re-released as a production model if you’re lucky. For example, the iconic Taylor Made Nessie custom found new life in an arguably even better form as the Urban EDC Nessie production model. Where the original custom knife was a more traditional slipjoint gent’s knife, this collaboration with Urban EDC Supply features a minimalist modern gent’s look equipped with utilitarian features that give it an edge over the original when it comes to handling tougher EDC tasks.

If you aren’t familiar with the basic design of the Nessie, think of it as a folding version of a kukri knife with a unique blade shape that features a well-defined point at the tip and an extended belly for excellent chopping and slicing action. This new version of this grail-worthy knife features a more industrial design with a titanium frame lock and your choice between bare metal, canvas micarta, and grippy natural G10 scales.

No matter which you chose, the Urban EDC Nessie has a solid lock where the original featured a non-locking slipjoint, making it more well suited for moderate to heavy EDC usage. And the premium M390 stainless steel blade composition is no slouch either, offering excellent edge retention and maximum sharpness out of the box. Deployment of the blade is also a lot easier, as the new Nessie features a one-handed flipper opening.

The best part about the upcoming Urban EDC Nessie? It’s available for preorder at a fraction of the cost of the limited run custom original Nessie knife. That mean’s you’re going to see it more often than the namesake mythical creature it’s named after, and if you click the link below you can buy one today and secure one of these practical yet premium everyday carry folding knives for yourself at the link below.
