Vosteed, known for its high-quality knives featuring innovative designs, has recently launched its new Dachshund knife, named after the clever and lively dog breed. The Dachshund features a crossbar lock mechanism, an M390 stainless steel blade, and a titanium handle, making it a versatile and durable everyday carry companion.

The M390 stainless steel blade offers excellent edge retention and corrosion resistance, with a modified reverse tanto blade shape that is versatile enough to handle various cutting tasks. The blade’s thumb studs also allow for different opening options. The Dachund’s sleek and modern titanium handle is ergonomically contoured with an angled, geometric design, with a reversible pocket clip for tip-up carry. The crossbar lock system provides a strong, secure lockup and smooth and fast deployment. The lock can be easily operated with either hand, and it also adds to the fidget-friendly nature of the knife. Vosteed says the Dachshund is “not only fully ambidextrous and intuitive to use, but it also provides great fidgetablity and tons of fun.”

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

If you’re the kind of person who needs Nitro Cold Brew and lots of it, we’ve got just the thing for your everyday carry. While the Tactile Turn Nitro Seasonal Release won’t automatically make and dispense coffee for you, it does celebrate our shared love for coffee, the drink that makes the world go round.

It starts with their Side Click Titanium body, with a rich dark brown Cerakote finish and cream-colored hardware that evokes a dark brew and the light splash of milk you get in a good latte. And as masterfully crafted as latte artwork, a lightning bolt mug design is precision engraved on the pocket clip. The Nitro Seasonal Release is also available in Tactile’s Slim Click profile if you prefer a slimmer pen. Both versions come in Standard, Short, and Mini lengths to meet your needs. Remember that the Parker-style refills work on Standard and Short, but the Mini uses the exclusive but smooth-writing Pilot G2 mini refills.

Like all Tactile Seasonal Releases, you have a limited time to order the pen, but you’re good to go as long as you order before December 31st. Pull two big shots and send it in by tonight because the Tactile Nitro Side Click Seasonal Pen is your perfect companion for your next trip to the coffeehouse.

What we like: Aside from the playful coffee lover’s aspect of this pen, the golden brown Cerakote body of the Nitro is excellently crafted with undertones that make it more than just a paint job.

What to watch out for: Tactile has also released an optional ceramic Diner Mug and a coffee bag of premium beans from Voltage Coffee Project in Decatur, Texas. It’s currently sold out, but there will be a second batch coming soon that you can look out for.

Final verdict: You don’t have to like coffee to like this pen, but it doesn’t hurt. Tactile Seasonal Releases continue to deliver, and this pen is an excellent opportunity during the holiday gift season to spruce up someone’s everyday carry, especially if it’s for yourself.

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

Opting for an automatic mechanical watch involves having movements with lots of gears, springs, rotors, and other pieces to work. Where a standard quartz movement condenses all that into a circuit board, part of the allure of having an automatic watch is the mechanism itself, but that mechanism requires a slightly bigger watch, and that bigger size impacts the overall weight. But watches like the new Timex Expedition North Titanium Automatic keep the weight down by using the namesake titanium material instead.

The bead-blasted titanium case allows the 41mm diameter Expedition North to have a heft that wears smaller than its size. In its larger form, however, you get 200 meters of water resistance, which is a lot for a field watch. The larger space also enables more shock resistance for the Japanese automatic movement inside, powering the highly-legible three-hand watch. The dial features Arabic legends, with a Timex Expedition logo at the top. There’s a date window at the 3 o’clock position for your convenience. The hands are big and bright in regular light, and in the dark, the hours, hands, and markers feature Swiss Super-LumiNova lume to make it readable in low-light situations. An exhibition caseback is the final stylish flair to the watch, letting you take a peek into its automatic engine.

What we like: The handsome recycled ocean plastic strap is sustainable for the environment, and it also features easy removal from the 20mm lugs for swapping it out with other straps based on your style and mood.

What to watch out for: Traditional watch enthusiasts tend to have a problem with titanium watches. To them, the lightness is indicative of poor quality and a cheap feeling. But in everyday carry, we know that finding the best materials is part of finding the best tools to do the job, and a titanium watch like the Timex Expedition North Automatic allows for serious weight savings and overall comfort on your wrist.

Final verdict: The Timex Expedition North Titanium Automatic 41mm is a highly easy-to-read field watch featuring a lightweight titanium case, a quality Japanese automatic movement, and a sapphire glass crystal at an attainable price.

I love the sturdiness and feeling of quality metal mechanical pencils brought to the table, but the added weight sometimes means the pencil stays at my desk. And that’s a shame because mechanical pencils are the best option when doing work like quick math and temporary note-taking. The Titanium DraftTitan Mechanical Pencil by Maratac changes everything with a durable and beautiful spiral titanium body that’s only 1 oz.

The Grade 5 titanium body of the DraftTitan isn’t just for looks: it’s precision-machined and designed to reduce the overall weight of the pencil in your hand. This slim, sleek, and compact everyday carry writing implement measures 6” long, and it has a titanium clip that acts as a rolling stop for the pencil on your desk.

With its 2mm graphite core and smooth rear click activation, the DraftTitan is a joy to use. It comes with 12 spare refills for added convenience. Whether a mechanical pencil is your primary writing tool or backup, this new CountyComm exclusive mechanical pencil is a solid option for your next gear pickup.

What we like: The spiral titanium body lends an elegant, minimal look to the pencil, helping reduce its weight to just a single ounce. And at under 40 dollars as of this writing, it’s also great value for money.

What to watch out for: The Titanium DraftTitan Mechanical Pencil is only available in a serialized run of 1000 pencils at CountyComm. We can’t guarantee they’ll reappear, so if you want one for yourself, you should act sooner rather than later.

Final verdict: You get a quality everyday carry mechanical pencil when you opt for a Titanium DraftTitan Pencil made by Maratac for CountyComm. It’s one of the best options for new metal mechanical pencil pickups today.

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

As knife enthusiasts, we’d be lying if we said we didn’t own knives that we would rather admire than put to any hard work. Designed by retired law enforcement officer Nick Swan, the Kansept Knives Model 6 was designed to be practical, not kept away in a safe. And though the Model 6 series may have been created to be a dependable and durable knife used in practical situations, that doesn’t mean they can’t look great either.

The premium stonewashed 3.1″ CPM S35VN blade is impressive right out of the box and can easily cut through paper, cardboard, rope, leather, and much more. This blade holds its edge well and doesn’t require frequent sharpening, and it is also resistant to rust and corrosion, which makes it suitable for outdoor use. As a bonus, the stonewashed finish gives it a rugged and worn-in look that hides scratches and wear. Its sheepsfoot shape lends itself to slicing and precision tasks, and its rear flipper deployment, along with riding on a bearing pivot, means it’s ready to work with a quick flick.

Its eye-catching blue anodized, orange peel textured titanium handle was designed for comfort and a smooth grip. The handle houses a frame lock and a lanyard hole for extra security and customization. Its titanium clip is 3D milled, which means it has a curved shape that conforms to the handle and the pocket and is reversible for left or right-hand carry.

One of the best things about the Model 6 is that it comes in a wide range of combinations that cater to every budget and style preference. You can choose from various handle materials like carbon fiber or G-10 scales. If you want a different blade steel, premium steels such as the CPM 20CV are also available, or you can choose 154CM steel for a more affordable option with its own set of colorways.

What we like: Tons of variations. Mix and match scales and steel to make your knife uniquely suited to your tastes, budget, and everyday use case.

What to watch out for: The frame lock is a higher-tier option than the usual liner lock, but unfortunately, along with the single-position clip, it makes the Model 6 primarily for righties. Bearings are also excellent for fast and fidgety action but can get gunked up over time and with use.

Final verdict: The Kansept Knives Model 6 is a versatile working knife that you can use for daily tasks, with an attractive design across several options that you can easily admire when the work is done.

The post The Drop: LOOP GEAR SK03 AA Flashlight appeared first on Everyday Carry.

]]>
It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

LOOP GEAR burst into the flashlight scene and onto my radar with a literal flash, putting together a combination of features that both interested and delighted me on a number of levels, from material to functional. The first SK01s LEP was a monster of a zoomable LEP that immediately put LOOP GEAR’s best foot forward, showing off their prowess and understanding of wildly differing disciplines for flashlights and EDC in general. It combined high-quality fidget toys, super-premium materials, and even a niche flashlight application in LEPs and somehow made it all work–for a price. This was quickly followed by a more versatile LED version that also dropped the size and price of the SK01s by a fair bit.

Now crowdfunding their third light, LOOP GEAR has figured it out. The SK03 is the culmination of some of the brand’s best ideas and design language but sized and priced down to more everyday sensibilities. For starters, it comes with the same futuristic design that the SK01s impressed with. Smooth brushed and polished surfaces, geometric cutouts, and grooves give a striking look far removed from the usual black, knurled tactical lights we’ve all seen.

The SK03 is an AA-sized light. It’s not as popular as it used to be for EDC lights (which have either transitioned to built-in lithium-ion batteries or moved up to much larger and more powerful cells), but it offers a fantastic sweet spot for an EDC light. Bonus points if it supports Li-ion 14500 batteries, which the SK03 does. The platform and LED–the campaign is starting initially with a Philips/Lumileds LUXEON HL2X but has a stretch goal for a white Cree XP-G4–are designed to hit 1,000 lumens at 120 meters (~393 feet), with its modes controlled by a rear clicky tail switch.

Like its big brothers, there’s more than meets the eye to this light, and it comes with more than a few interesting tricks up its double-barreled sleeve. While compatible with standard AA-sized batteries, rechargeable or otherwise, it comes with a USB-C charging 14500 for maximum runtime and output. Forgoing the more fidgety aspects of the SK01, the SK03’s optional alternative clip comes with a slide-out knife and bottle opener that acts as an adjustable magnetic stand for the light.

A few more flourishes round out the light, including auxiliary 4500K side LEDs and glow-in-the-dark panels within the head that get charged up when you use the light. Its regular clip is two-way, and last but not least, the SK03 comes with IP65-rated water and dust resistance.

What we like: The SK01 has been one of my favorite flashlights in recent history, and the SK03 is LOOP GEAR’s most usable EDC light yet. It also comes with all the fit, finish, and functionality I am now coming to expect from the brand at a surprisingly affordable price.

What to watch out for: Standard crowdfunding disclaimer here, so just be aware of how pledging on Kickstarter works. Also, be mindful of the LED/material options available when selecting which model to pledge for.

Final verdict: I am hoping Christmas comes early with this light.

]]>
It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

The Diatomic is a unique flipper knife that WE Knife Company released at Blade Show Texas 2023 to great acclaim, going on to win Best Factory Tactical Knife at the show and winning again at USN’s The Gathering for Best Factory Folder. That it got recognized as a cut above the rest of WE’s already premium knives speaks volumes for this model.

The knife comes with a dagger-style folding blade, which is rare for non-automatic folding knives and especially not dressed up in the four styles the Diatomic comes with, including an extravagant Hakkapella Damasteel. Unlike many traditional daggers or even modern interpretations, the Diatomic features top-tier steel and titanium and an intelligent design that’s a pleasure to use for both work and play.

Speed and symmetry are at the heart of the Diatomic. The smooth flipper mechanism gives you quick access to the single-edge 3.78″ dagger blade that features CPM 20CV stainless steel with excellent maximum sharpness and edge retention, befitting a top-end material. Furthering the symmetric design, it comes with a flipper tab on both sides (but only swings out from one) and a deep carry pocket clip on both sides, giving your fingers a place to grip or rest when using the knife. Machined grooves continue the geometric design started by the clip, adding extra purchase towards the tail end.

The beautifully crafted bead-blasted 6Al-4V titanium handle integrates a secure frame lock that holds the blade open during use. Another safety feature that the flipper tabs append is acting as blade guards on both the top and bottom of the knife to help prevent you from cutting yourself on your knife when you’re piercing through rough material.

What we like: The symmetrical dagger design of the WE Knife Diatomic makes it one of the best knives for piercing and cutting with its larger blade and its outstanding point. And true to WE fashion, it comes with the best materials you can find on a production knife.

What to watch out for: While the Diatomic has a blade with a symmetrical dagger profile, only one of the two edges is sharp. The single-edge design is safer and more accessible for anyone not used to EDCing an actual dagger and better accommodating laws where a double edge may not be allowed.

Final verdict: WE knives are already at the top of the game, and the Diatomic leads the pack as a two-time champion.

For knife enthusiasts, Chris Reeve needs no introduction. His most iconic design, the Sebenza, has earned the title of “grail” knife for many EDCers for its innovative Reeve Integral Lock (commonly known as a frame lock on knives from other brands that eventually adopted this mechanism) and premium steel from Crucible on its blade. The Inkosi is an evolution of the Sebenza designed with EDC in mind. It retains a similar slim, minimalist design as the Sebenza but with more prominent choils for better ergonomics in hand. It boasts the signature Reeve Integral Lock in its titanium handles to secure its CPM S35VN steel blade.

]]>
It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

The venerable fountain pen holds a special place in many an EDC stationery enthusiast’s heart. Aside from being a unique writing tool that stands out from the disposable ball pens everyone else uses, there are a lot of advantages when you choose a fountain pen, especially when it’s well-designed. That’s why Wingback took their time developing and precision machining a fountain pen with smooth writing sessions in mind.

The Wingback Fountain Pen features a wide-diameter barrel with a diamond-knurled grip formed into its metal body. The wide barrel allows you to establish a firm and comfortable grip on the pen. It also helps give the Wingback Fountain Pen more weight in your hand than a plastic disposable pen, which makes for a satisfying feel of quality in your hands.

Whether you pick between the stainless steel, raw brass, titanium, or tungsten-carbide-coated black steel version of the Wingback Fountain Pen, you get a premium Bock iridium fountain pen nib at the tip. Iridium is an upgrade from the standard stainless steel nib and offers more durability when compared to more opulent nibs made of gold. You can also choose the nib size for your pen, from extra fine to double broad, matching your style preferences to the smallest detail.

It’s also easy to use the ink with the pen. It works with cartridges, but the benefit of Wingback’s experience with precision metal machining means that you can use the pen’s body to contain a reservoir of ink using the eyedropper method. Seals built into the metal pen prevent the ink from escaping and making a huge mess.

What we like: One of the benefits of Wingback releasing this pen via Kickstarter is that you get a custom order. You can have Wingbacklaser engrave up to 50 characters of your choice along the length of the pen’s metal barrel to personalize it.

What to watch out for: Standard crowdfunding disclaimer here, so just be aware of how pledging on Kickstarter works. Pursuing a slim and sleek design also means the Wingback Fountain Pen forgoes a pocket clip, meaning the pen does not have a roll stop, so you have to ensure it doesn’t fall off your writing desk.

Final verdict: Wingback is a quality EDC writing implement manufacturer, and they have successfully delivered on Kickstarter before. If you’re willing to wait a bit to get a quality pen that stands out from the crowd, secure a Wingback Fountain Pen for yourself at the link below.

Ridge Titanium Field Watch https://everydaycarry.com/ridge-field-watch/ Thu, 14 Sep 2023 16:00:00 +0000 https://everydaycarry.com/ridge-field-watch/ Last year, Ridge launched their first foray into the world of watches with the Ridge Land & Sea…

The post Ridge Titanium Field Watch appeared first on Everyday Carry.

]]>
Last year, Ridge launched their first foray into the world of watches with the Ridge Land & Sea GMT Watch. It combined the best elements of a dive watch with the added benefits of a dedicated GMT dual-time watch. It was an excellent showcase of EDC versatility, which we’ve come to expect from all of Ridge’s offerings.

This time, Ridge takes a page from their award-winning Ridge Wallet by focusing on their core minimalist philosophy and applying it to their new watch release: the Ridge Titanium Field Watch.

Initially developed to serve military personnel in the field during battle, a field watch only has one objective: to allow its wearer to tell time quickly and reliably. To achieve this, a field watch must possess three main characteristics: accuracy, durability, and legibility. Time to check and see if the Ridge Titanium Field Watch ticks all the boxes.

Making a Case for Titanium

Bucking the trend of run-of-the-mill stainless steel cases found on most watches, the Titanium Field Watch’s 40mm case boasts premium Grade 2 titanium. It’s a much-loved material among EDC enthusiasts because of its corrosion resistance, hypoallergenic properties, and light weight, with titanium weighing 30% less than stainless steel. As a result, the watch on its rubber strap weighs only 69 grams or just under 2.5 oz.

Combined with the case’s well-proportioned dimensions of 47mm lug to lug, a slim case thickness of 11.5mm, and 20mm lug width, the watch feels extremely comfortable to wear, offering a more nimble presence on the wrist instead of the heft that a stainless steel watch brings.

The Titanium Field Watch’s titanium case also features a mix of polished and brushed surfaces, which play beautifully against the light to bring out the angularity of the case design details. And when compared to stainless steel, titanium presents a darker tone that is better at camouflaging scratches.

It achieves a 200-meter water resistance rating, exceptionally rare for field watches that typically possess water resistance ratings of 50-100 meters. This water resistance is accomplished by a screw-down crown and caseback, ensuring a tight seal and preventing water from entering the case. This makes the Titanium Field Watch suitable for swimming, snorkeling, and even diving.

Premium Performance Inside

The Ridge Titanium Field Watch marks the brand’s expansion into mechanical timepieces. It’s powered by a self-winding Miyota 9039 automatic movement, which harnesses energy through the motion of your wrist. This means that instead of relying on batteries like a quartz movement, the watch can run indefinitely if worn daily, so you don’t have to worry about the watch suddenly stopping without warning.

This isn’t just any automatic movement, either. The Miyota 9039 is an ultra-thin, Japanese-made, premium mechanical movement rated with an accuracy of -10 to +30 seconds daily with 42 hours of power reserve.

It notably boasts a beat frequency of 28800 vibrations per hour (vph), ticking at 4 Hz, or eight beats per second, matching the movements found in many luxury watches. This gives the movement improved accuracy and an exceptionally smooth sweep of the seconds hand, especially compared to other automatic watches in this price tier, which typically feature movements with a slower frequency of 21600 vph or 3 Hz.

This Miyota 9039 also features hand-winding and hacking capabilities present in more upscale watches. If the watch has stopped (usually from being in storage), you can start it running again by simply winding the crown. Hacking, on the other hand, stops the second hand from moving when you pull the crown out to adjust the time, so you can set it with precision while synchronizing it to any other watch or clock.

Dialed In Legibility

The dial and exhibition caseback are protected by AR-coated sapphire crystals, the second hardest material on Earth next to diamonds, making the display virtually scratch-proof. Not only is this a premium material found on high-end watches, but its enhanced clarity further adds to the legibility needed on a field watch.

The dial is available in five high-contrast color combinations that match Ridge’s other popular everyday carry gear: Matte Olive, Royal Black, Alpine Navy, Basecamp Orange, and Carbon Fiber 3K.

The different dials feature an attractive textured design, with large, highly visible even numerals, hour markers, and polished stainless steel hands equipped with Swiss Super-LumiNova for easy readability, even in pitch-black environments. A minute track with 24-hour markers on the outer rim to easily tell military time is a nod to classic field watch military heritage.

Two Is One, One Is None

Each watch comes with two strap options in different materials to complement the dial color. All watches come with a matching Fluoro Rubber strap and either a genuine leather or nylon strap, allowing you to customize it to your style.

The straps feature quick-release pins that make it easy to swap straps without any tools, letting you change your watch’s look and feel in seconds. The signed strap buckles are also crafted from titanium to match the case, which is an excellent attention to detail.

A Winning Combination

The Matte Olive, Royal Black, Alpine Navy, and Basecamp Orange color options are priced at $275, while the Carbon Fiber 3K can be had for $375 due to its unique carbon fiber dial and black PVD-coated titanium case.

The Ridge Titanium Field Watch takes the legacy style of the classic field watch worn by soldiers, explorers, and adventurers for decades, elevating it with modern features and a careful choice of materials that make it more durable, versatile, and elegant.

Whether it’s used for hiking in the mountains, diving in the ocean, or working in the office, the Ridge Titanium Field Watch is an excellent choice for those looking for their first automatic watch thanks to its affordable price; or anyone looking for a reliable everyday timepiece that will serve them for years to come, thanks to Ridge’s lifetime guarantee. Choose a color (or two) that suits your style, and grab yours from the link below.

Morgan Koens is a custom fixed blade maker with a lot of experience creating functional and beautiful knives. Coming from a long history of designing fixed blades, the Shikari exemplifies how he executes a folding knife design, showing his skill and passion for the craft.

The Kansept Knives Shikari SBL has a 3.35” modified clip point blade made of CPM S35VN steel, a premium stainless steel offering excellent edge retention, corrosion resistance, and toughness. The blade has a black stonewashed finish that gives it a rugged and stealthy look. It can be easily opened with the rear flipper tab or by disengaging its namesake button lock, which also serves as a safety mechanism to prevent accidental closure. The blade runs on a ball-bearing pivot system, ensuring smooth and fast deployment with a snap.

The handle of the Shikari SBL is made of black and white “Gmascus,” a composite material made from layered G-10 that mimics the appearance of Damascus steel. The handle scales also feature an anodized titanium bolster that adds strength and durability to the knife. Its contoured shape fits comfortably in the hand to provide a secure grip, while a lanyard hole and titanium pocket clip offer options for easy carry.

What we like: Its big-bellied blade using premium steel makes it suitable for any outdoor task you can throw at it. We also like how the clip point shape echoes its fixed-blade DNA with a long thumb ramp and slick accent swedge.

What to watch out for: If this particular design isn’t to your liking, multiple versions of the Shikari are available, from more premium options featuring 20CV steel and Damascus / Timascus handles to more affordable variants that use 154CM steel to suit your budget. Also, take note that the button lock and clip are, unfortunately, not ambidextrous.

Final verdict: The Shikari SBL combines utility and pleasing aesthetics in a compact and elegant package with an easy-to-use, safe button lock and a comfortable handle with stylish flairs from tip to clip.

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

If you love to EDC the color black but find it hard to find an elegant blacked-out pocket knife because of all the aggressive tactical folders on the market, look no further than the WE Knife Co. Cybernetic. The Cybernetic features an attractive, slim, sleek design with clean lines and an immensely technical but minimalist look that makes it right at home in a cyberpunk’s EDC.

It starts with the slender 3.91″ long modified black stonewash finished tanto-point blade. WE bills it as a unique blade shape; you can see why with one look. The tip is upswept, with a slight curve, giving it a robust slicing belly and a fine tip for delicate work that a regular tanto can’t do. And because the blade is made out of quality CPM 20CV steel, you get high hardness, maximum sharpness, and edge retention out of the box. Additional grinds on both sides of the blade reinforce the angular aesthetic.

The blade’s clean lines transition smoothly into the handle design, and the all-black look accents well with the bronze-colored hardware. Both sides of the titanium handle have no additional embellishments, save for the geometric design lines (which also accent the milled titanium clip) and the frame lock. And rather than opting for an exposed rear flipper tab that would break up the design, a tiny tab is on the top of the handle instead for an action not unlike a front flipper.

What we like: When you see a blacked-out EDC knife, it tends to feature a tactical design with serrations and other defensive features that seem out of place from a regular everyday carry. The Cybernetic’s understated but futuristic design is a standout in the space.

What to watch out for: This is a knife designed mainly for righties, due to its fixed clip and framelock. That said, users can look forward to five styles, including a slick Damasteel blade variant.

Final verdict: When it’s only 2023 and you need a knife for 20XX, the Cybernetic is the pickup.

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

If you picture a Timex watch in your head, the ubiquitous Weekender and Explorer quartz field watches likely come to mind. But with a century of watchmaking experience under their belts, the folks at Timex regularly go above and beyond with new designs. For example, there’s the new S2 Automatic Watch from Timex’s design bureau in Switzerland. The Giorgio Galli S2 features a namesake minimalist design by Timex’s design director. The 38mm injection-molded 316L stainless steel case has a unique skeleton design that reduces weight and gives it a stunning look from the side.

The back of the watch features a combination of inserted titanium and a sapphire glass exhibition case. That see-through case back shows off another giant leap the S2 takes in the Timex line: this is the first watch from Timex featuring a precision Swiss Sellita movement. The caliber SW200-1 is an automatic self-winding mechanical watch movement with 26 jewels and a 41-hour power reserve.

It all comes together with the minimal and dressy face of the watch, with an enamel dial and low-profile stainless steel hour markers capped with a domed sapphire glass crystal with anti-glare coating. Out of the box, the watch comes with a comfortable NBR synthetic rubber strap with a stainless steel clasp. You can swap it out quickly with the right tools. Other details of note include 50M of water resistance and a strap and lug width of 18mm.

What we like: The Giorgio Galli S2 features an excellent and elegant minimalist design with the added benefit of a Swiss-made movement ticking inside. The smaller case size may also appeal to those looking for a more compact wear.

What to watch out for: While you won’t have to change out the batteries on this watch (there are none), if this is your first time with an automatic movement, it might be challenging to understand why the watch stops ticking if you stop wearing it after a while. The price is also relatively steep compared to many more popular EDC recommendations. Still, the sum of its parts and its utterly unique design and pedigree could make it a much better value prop for those who can afford it.

Final verdict: If you’re in the market for a classy EDC minimalist dress watch with Swiss automatic chops and a remarkable aesthetic to boot, the Timex Giorgio Galli S2 is right up your alley.

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

Every quarter, our friends at Tactile Turn put out a Seasonal Release, a unique version of one of their EDC metal pens that stands out. This month’s release is called The Ember, and it’s a smoking hot take on their community-favorite bolt-action pen with a smooth Cerakote finish that makes this pen a joy to write with every day. Tactile Turn spent lots of time in the lab perfecting applying a Cerakote finish to their products, and the Ember is the current pinnacle of the process.

Like a fire to a flame, the titanium body of the Ember features a Cerakote color gradient that goes from bright red at the pen’s tip to light orange at the finial. The internal bolt action also features a yellow Cerakote finish, making it feel smoother in both deployment and retraction compared to the standard Tactile Turn pens I’ve used. The engraved wood grain look on the pocket clip completes the look as a perfect complement to the theme.

As a bonus, outdoor brand ExoTac provided some nanoStrikerXL firestarters to Tactile, giving them the same Cerakote treatment and colorway as the pens, making for a spicy outdoor-themed combination. The nanoStrikerXLs are available as a separate add-on, while supplies last.

What we like: The Ember represents the return of the Bolt Action pen to Tactile Turn’s seasonal releases, and with style too. The Cerakote finish also makes this one of the smoothest feeling pens Tactile Turn has made, and it only really hits you when you have it in hand.

What to watch out for: Make sure to pick the right size and length of the Ember that suits your EDC. Pick between a Regular and Slim version and three different lengths. Of those lengths, the Mini pen only works with Pilot G2 mini ink cartridges, whereas the other two work with Parker-style refills.

Final verdict: The Ember takes an already-great everyday carry pen and turns up the heat even further. If the Ember appeals to you, you have every chance to get it within the duration of the season, so order while it’s available.

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

Once in a while, among the droves of pocket knives that we see come and go, we see a knife that causes us to do a double take. The WE Knife Co. Nexusia Titanium Knife is one of those knives. We’ve come to know WE Knife Co. as manufacturers of some of the best value-for-money knives out there, and this Nexusia flipper is no exception.

The Nexusia is a rather hefty knife, with an overall length of 8.30” and a blade length of 3.48”. The blade is made from premium CPM 20CV steel, one of the best steels in the market for edge retention, corrosion resistance, and toughness. Its drop point style makes it highly versatile and suitable for various tasks, while the blade’s design with a deep fuller adds some flair while simultaneously making it lighter and stiffer.

Its handle is exceptionally comfortable, thanks to its larger size. Since the handle and frame lock are made from titanium, durability will never be an issue. However, What caught my eye is its tiger stripe flamed finish–not something you see every day on titanium–which gives it a unique look that truly stands out. The handle also has machined holes and a flamed pivot, adding texture and contrast to the design.

The flipper opening is smooth and fast, thanks to the bearings in the pivot. The flipper also acts as a guard when the knife is opened, preventing the hand from slipping onto the blade.

What we like: Not only does it look great, but the Nexusia’s size lets it be extremely capable of handling any task you throw at it.

What to watch out for: It’s a limited-edition premium piece, meaning stocks will be limited and come with a price tag to match. It’s also currently on pre-order, so you’ll be waiting a bit to get yours. Lastly, it’s a righty-only model, so unfortunately not optimal for lefties.

Final verdict: The WE Knife Co. Nexusia is an attractive, well-made knife that presents a great showcase of the kind of quality and craftsmanship that WE Knife Co. is capable of.

The folks at BigIDesign are known for their streamlined pocket tools, and of course, pens. The Ti Arto EDC is an updated (and improved) version of their original Ti Arto pen that accepted over 200 different pen refills. This updated version is lighter-weight, easier to use, and adjusts to the length of various refills with a simple twist.

The Ti Arto EDC takes into consideration the feedback that BigiDesign received on their last pen. The result is a more straightforward yet more functional version that seamlessly adapts to accept over 750 refills (yes, you read that right) without any play in the tip of the pen. The Arto EDC achieves this thanks to the clutch mechanism in the grip, coupled with the screw-to-adjust body that lengthens or shortens depending on how you twist it. When capped, the pen hovers between 4.4” and 5.2”, depending on the refill inside. It’s small enough to fit in your pocket easily and stays in there securely thanks to the deep pocket carry clip.

The pen is crafted from grade 5 titanium alloy and is available in three different finishes. You can pick one up in stonewashed titanium, midnight black, or raw machined titanium. No matter what your preferred refill in, the Ti Arto EDC has you covered.

The post The Drop: Vosteed x R.S. Knifeworks RSKAOS Titanium Knife appeared first on Everyday Carry.

]]>
It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

We’ve covered a number of Vosteed’s offerings in the past and have always been impressed by the value and unique designs they’ve offered, certainly bucking the trend of what constitutes a “budget” knife. But once in a while, every company takes the chance to demonstrate what they’re truly capable of, and thanks to a collaboration with Rob Saniscalchi of R.S. Knifeworks, Vosteed did just that with their most premium knife yet.

Originally dubbed the “Mayhem,” the RSKAOS is a knife taken to 11 in every possible way. It’s based on a custom framelock from R.S. Knifeworks but tweaked to be even more unique in this production version from tip to clip. Top-tier M390 steel known for its toughness and corrosion resistance, titanium handles, and an all-new top liner lock (think button and Compression) are the key features, with two blade shapes (3.46” wharncliffe and 3.3” sheepsfoot) and two colorways to give you four times the fun.

It’s a big departure from what we’ve seen so far from Vosteed, and I think it’s extremely refreshing that they can flex their design and manufacturing chops with the RSKAOS. It reflected in the knife’s original drop, where all four designs sold out in 20 seconds. It does so many things differently but capably, from the two blade designs leaning more towards utility, to a more futuristic design with the machined grooves in both the blade spine and body.

They even included a few smart and stylish flairs, like a copper-colored aluminum pivot collar on the regular titanium version and gilded aluminum accents on the black PVD titanium one. A minimal-knurled rear flipper tab complements the elliptical thumb, which in turn complements the rear lanyard hole. It really does feel like every aspect of the RSKAOS has been thoughtfully considered, and it deserves all the praise it’s been getting.

What we like: The RSKAOS is a welcome surprise from a brand that’s made a name for itself on the more affordable end of the industry, and is an excellent demonstration of their capabilities as knifemakers and collaborators.

What to watch out for: Premium features come with a premium price tag, but I think it’s fair, given the total package. Vosteed is planning on more stocks, so keep an eye out if you haven’t been able to snag one yet. One thing to note as well–the RSKAOS, unfortunately, only comes in a right-handed orientation.

Final verdict: Yes, Vosteed did that. And we want all of it.

The post The Drop: Kansept Knives Mini Korvid Titanium Knife appeared first on Everyday Carry.

]]>
It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

When I think of a cleaver-style blade, I envision a large chopping knife more suited for the kitchen than a pocket EDC tool. Whether fixed or folding knives, cleaver-style blades tend to be larger than most compact folding knives that are well-suited for everyday carry. But that’s not the case with knives like the Kansept Mini Korvid folding cleaver knife. Made out of premium materials and with a minimalist look, I think the Kansept Mini Korvid is a knife that’s true to its name.

Few cleaver-style blades for everyday carry come with a 1.45” blade. Even fewer feature premium CPM 35VN stainless steel with a beautiful satin finish and a flat ground edge that takes full advantage of the Crucible steel’s cutting power. But the Mini Korvid, designed by Justin Koch, a well-known pocket tool designer, does that and more. The Mini Korvid’s premium compact blade pairs with a bead-blasted titanium handle that features an overall length of just 3.8” and the security of a beefy frame lock to ensure that the cleaver-style blade remains in place. At the same time, you chop and slice with it in your hands.

I think adding a flipper mechanism makes it easy to operate with a single hand for such a small blade. The finger choil behind the blade’s edge also lets you take full advantage of the length of the knife for controlled and precise cutting when needed. That choil and the flat ground nature of the edge makes it easy to maintain using a whetstone when you eventually dull the knife over time.

What we like: The Kansept Mini Korvid is a compact EDC folding cleaver-style knife that you will easily bring around wherever you go. The use of premium materials makes this a knife that can perform essential tasks without the bulk that a larger blade would bring to the table.

What to watch out for: Unfortunately, the compact size of the Mini Korvid does come at the cost of not coming with a pocket clip. If you need one for your EDC and you hate having tools get jumbled around in your pockets as you walk from place to place, there may be better knives for your needs than the Kansept Mini Korvid.

Final verdict: With its uniquely compact design and premium build quality, the Kansept Mini Korvid delivers on its name. You get a solid EDC folding cleaver-style blade that’s a fraction of the size of other similar knives on the market today.
