It’s been a minute since we checked in with our friend Matt and his wonderful workshop of wearables, carryables, and skill toys over at aroundsquare, so it’s right on time to browse what he’s cooked up for his August 2024 drop. This month’s collection features fresh takes on some of his classic fidgetables, including the Podushka Chetki, a rounder, chunkier, and more comfortable version of the traditional Eastern European chetki, in a green sandalwood showing off the wood’s unique grain patterns. There’s also the Deadeye Donut Hollows, an evolution of the hollowed-out Deadeye coin in titanium, introducing more thickness to allow a larger surface area for better handling and manipulation. Last but certainly not least is a reintroduction of the thinner Knucklebone Sliminis in a stunning exotic Zircuti. On the wearables front, my personal favorite MKUltras arrive on thinner 1.2mm cord, with thinner beads in the form of Picos and Micro Barrels, offering a lower profile and oval options from the usual rounder selection.

There are a few more releases and restocks as a part of this drop that Matt goes over in the preview linked below, and as of this writing the majority of the pieces are still available and with an early discount.

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

The fun and fabulous toys by our friends over at aroundsquare are best known for two things: a whole catalog worth of wearables and carryables to choose from, and being able to pick up most everything in that catalog in a range of materials from wood to the most exotic materials and alloys.

For their October drop, they’re cooking up even more material science with a healthy dose of polyetherimide (PEI), otherwise known more popularly as Ultem. To say that it’s made a splash in EDC is an understatement; its unique properties of high strength and rigidity give it exceptional stability even at very high temperatures, making it a sort of superplastic once it’s set. Matt (the founder of aroundsquare) has a great write-up about it in his e-mail announcing the drop.

As for the drop itself, there’s plenty to scope out and scoop up, Ultem or otherwise. Leading the pack are long and shortform “MKUltems,” my personal favorite wearable they offer, which also comes in both a matte machined finish and polished versions. There are Ultem begleris with the new apple-shaped Mílos beads, as well as in the larger Hardcore Titans variant. Last but not least are Ultem options for both the Banzhi ring and several Knucklebones, so there really is a lot in this drop to look out for if you want to get your amber game on.

What we like: Variety is the spice of life, and Ultem is just another great material option if you’re looking for the perfect mindfulness or meditation toy from aroundsquare. Bonus that it’s also particularly distinct in appearance without adding too much to the cost of a product, without any performance drawbacks.

What to watch out for: Some aroundsquare drops can get popular, and given Ultem’s, these could be snatched up quickly. Set those alarms for 7PM Pacific today, Friday the 27th, to get a jump on the release. Also, check out the other inclusions, like a new cashmere sweater and acrylic sets.

Final verdict: Amber is the color of our energy.

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

It’s already been a month since we featured our friends at aroundsquare, a one-stop shop for everything mindfulness, manipulation, fidgeting, and just plain fun, and they’ve just unveiled their February release. In addition to quiet restocks across the board (be sure to browse around), this month introduces a few new interesting products to their ever-growing lineup. We spy:

  • A new Knucklebones model that’s slim, and mini—aptly named the Slimini.
  • A 100% silk Hybrid Rope for those looking into the benefits and fun in rope flow and jump ropes
  • Premium wool vests
  • Delrin bundles like those in the header, which include a fine selection of skill toys and wearables from Begleri to Knucklebones to Remeshok Chetki
  • A bunch of exotic offerings

There’s plenty to see, and even many more to collect, so check out the video below to see what’s in store.

What we like: Even more skill-based and manipulation options to explore.

What to watch out for: Repeating what we mentioned last time—aroundsquare is constantly adding stuff to its catalog but you may find some items not always in stock. Be sure to subscribe to their newsletter at the bottom of their page and their socials to find out when the next drops are coming, especially if you’re after one of the more exotic pieces.

Final verdict: One month is too short to save up for some of our exotic favorites.

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

Fall deep enough into the fidget toy rabbit hole and you’ll eventually find yourself face-to-face with the premium offerings of Matt Hiebert and his company aroundsquare. Beyond just simple toys to calm one’s self down, he’s built an impressive catalog of tools, accessories, and even wearables that all serve the practical purpose of functional fun. From precision-manufactured skill toys like begleri, Knucklebones, and Deadeye coins to meditation-inspired manipulation accessories like MKUltras and mala beads, they have a comprehensive catalog for everyone looking to aid their focus and fidgety fingers.

But it doesn’t stop there. While aroundsquare is well-versed with materials that would get EDCers interested like wood, copper, and titanium, Matt and his team also produce limited-edition variations of their products. They dive into the deep end of highly exotic materials and alloys like Mokume Gane, Zircuti, and Mokuti, giving collectors some truly remarkable pieces of functional, wearable art.

What we like: These are fidget toys taken to the next level, inspired by traditional manipulation and meditation tools, and manufactured with some of the best materials you can find in EDC. Seriously, it’s hard to find something NOT to like.

What to watch out for: aroundsquare is constantly adding stuff to its catalog but you may find some items not always in stock. Be sure to subscribe to their newsletter at the bottom of their page and their socials to find out when the next drops are coming, especially if you’re after one of the more exotic pieces.

Final verdict: I don’t think I’ll be able to stop at just one MKUltra anytime soon.
